HPV is a sexually transmitted virus that causes cervical dysplasia.

It is impossible to know when you got exposed to the virus.

Pepperband,

Are you saying that it may not have come from my husbands affair.

Wait! Cervical dysplasia can be caused by a host of things, such as DES exposure, smoking, even poor diet. Unless you were also DX with HPV or another STD that can cause dysplasia, don't point the finger at WH - yet.

Stungalong,

I was tested after DDay and everything was fine. I just went in for a checkup. So this is not an STD? Is that what you are saying?

Lifted, this is a question for your treating phsyician. Cervical dysplasia can be caused by a number of things, including certain STDs. The usual panoply of tests look for gonorrhea, syphilis and chlamydia, so you may or may not have been tested for viral STDs such as herpes and HPV. You must ask your doctor before you make the leap into believing that the dysplasia was caused by your WH's A. Hopefully the dysplasia was caused by something else and can be easily treated. Good luck!

Right after DDay July 6, 2004 I was tested for everything. It all came back negative. When I went in for my regular examine early Sept 2005 they rechecked for chlamydia Y gonorrhea. They came back negative. She said the dysplasia showed up. I am scheduled for a colposcopy.

Are you saying there is no way to know where it came from?

No, I am saying that the cause of your dysplasia is a question for your OB/GYN - not the folks on this board, and I do agree with Pep - if it was caused by HPV, you will not likely be able to trace the source . . . unless your WH is the only person with whom you have had SF.

My docs/nurses told me that a relationship from 20 years before can cause dysplasia -- it can lie dormant for that long.

I wouldn't think there's any way you can pin it conclusively on WH.
