What is a BBM message?

My experience with BlackBerrys is limited, but I know that if it's a corporate phone, the company will have a BlackBerry Server. And all messages route through it. These companies also are required to maintain backups and historical data for legal reasons, so the answer is "yes."

Individual BlackBerry phones use the RIM servers. They may also be traceable, but it will take a court order (as it might also on a corporate server) to do so.

When I used a BB, it didn't. Unless the mobile companies decide to start charging for use of BBM, I imagine it will stay that way.

You'd have to use software installed on the phone, or Fred's suggestions.

Look here for one (it grabs BBM as well as text): Software for capturing texts
