ok i'll try to catch everyone up on what happened as quickly as possible.

it all started in the spring of 51 when i was a mere glimmer in my daddy's eye. ok fast forward to march 30 2004.

went in for a tread mill test as i was having angina pains for some time and they were becoming more frequent. lasted 9 minutes on the tread mill and had to stop due to angina pains in my chest. time was average for my age but it was 3 minutes less then last year. doesn't sound like much but 3 minutes at the upper end of the test is big and i stopped last year with no pain.

my dr said i'll see you next week for an angiogram and if we need a surgeon we'll call him. that is where fh started worrying. me too.

anyway went in thursday for the angiogram. once they got me all lit up it was quite apparent that i had a 99% blockage directly behind the stent they placed almost exactly one year ago on 4/6/03.
the severity of the blockage was the location same as last year. had it blocked completely one complete half of the heart would have been blocked and that would have been very bad.

so they inserted another stent and placed the end of the new one inside the end of the old one. now i have a little over a 2" stent in the artery leading to the left quadrant of my heart.

the new stent is the newest medicated kind that is supposed to prevent scar tissue and platelets from adhereing to the stent. the first one is an unmedicated stent as the medicated ones were not approved until 2 days after i was released last year. timing!

after a long afternoon and night with the compression device and wrap on (the worst part of the whole deal) i was up and walking friday morning before breakfast and was released around noon on friday.

it's just amazing. i was awake during the procedure watching it on the tv monitor. the only discomfort was the local injection in the groin to numb the groin area for the small incision. and that was no worse then a shot of novacain at the dentist.

the dr said that should take care of the left side and there was some damage on the right side that he wanted to monitor. not sure yet what or if i will need further treatment for that side.

no vigorous activity for about 4 weeks and if i have any chest pain that doesn't clear immediately with my nitro pills i need to get to the hospital asap. also that the next 2 weeks are very critical as there is always a possibility that the body will fight the stent as an invasive substance and block it up very quickly. this is not likely according to the dr but always a possibility.

so i wanted to mow the lawn today but fh said NO. that it would be to hard pushing the mower. we have a self propelled one and she can empty the grass catcher for crying out loud. needless to say she won and the whole day was spent laying around watching videos and getting my paper work together for the financial aid we are applying for.

so that's the skinny and i feel great for now.

thank you all for the prayers and the kind words of support. she does not write often but i know they mean a lot to her and give her strength to push on.

Pops so glad your home and doing better. My mom has has the same procedure done. Has several stents. Listen to FH, you need to take it easy. Sounds like you've got enough paperwork to keep you busy and down on the couch or chair instead of doing yard work. The time will pass in no time. Thanks for posting your update.

Pops,

It's great that you are on the mend! Having been through this with my Daddy and then so recently with my Grandma, it's so great to hear that so far things are great! Daddy's last angiogram was perfect! In fact, one of the nurses said, "Man, I wish I had arteries like that!" He had a silent heartattack back at the beginning of 2002 and they wouldn't have done his first angiogram except for the fact that his blood pressure had gone up! This last one was from a treadmill test as well. There were some markings that said something may have happened. Luckily, it was fine, and his doctor said that from now on, his treadmill tests will show that marking. Oh well, hopefully he can keep this doctor, that way he won't have to do more angiograms than necessarry!

Glad to hear that you are on the mend, and let that grass grow, or have one of the kiddos do it! Keep resting, and enjoy the "time off"!!!!

Continued prayers for complete healing

Tigger

=^^= Hahahaha...

doesn't sound like much but 3 minutes at the upper end of the test is big and i stopped last year with no pain. my dr said i'll see you next week for an angiogram and if we need a surgeon we'll call him. that is where fh started worrying. me too.

=^^= That's so incredible that progress moves so quickly these days that new and improved technology changes on a dime...within two days!

after a long afternoon and night with the compression device and wrap on (the worst part of the whole deal) i was up and walking friday morning before breakfast and was released around noon on friday.

=^^= You da man, Pops.

it's just amazing. i was awake during the procedure watching it on the tv monitor. the only discomfort was the local injection in the groin to numb the groin area for the small incision. and that was no worse then a shot of novacain at the dentist.

=^^= THAT is amazing! I can't imagine being awake for ANY proceedure. No way, uh-uh, can't/won't do it. Must be KNOCKED OUT completely!!! I'd faint dead away anyway if I saw my heart being poked at on TV...I'm not THAT mezmerized by things like that. I just need to know this stuff exists...and be grateful for it...but, I sure don't need to witness the miracle...hahaha. I bet you found it all fascinating, didn't you.

the dr said that should take care of the left side and there was some damage on the right side that he wanted to monitor. not sure yet what or if i will need further treatment for that side.

=^^= Well, we'll all pray to the Big Guy that this is the end of it. Eat salads, don't smoke, get regular exercise and breathe deep and keep that aspiring bottle in your pocket along with your nitro. And, no stress.

no vigorous activity for about 4 weeks

=^^= What about...oh, never mind...hahaha

also that the next 2 weeks are very critical as there is always a possibility that the body will fight the stent as an invasive substance and block it up very quickly. this is not likely according to the dr but always a possibility.

=^^= So, is there a time line? Like, say after three months and then you can relax a little because by then the chances of rejection are very low?

so i wanted to mow the lawn today but fh said NO.

=^^= She's so smart....listen to Fullhouse. For the next six months, she gets to call all the shots.

getting my paper work together for the financial aid we are applying for.

=^^= What are the odds that financial aid will be granted? I'll keep my fingers crossed that the paperwork will be approved and you will be relieved of that worry.

so that's the skinny and i feel great for now.

=^^= Well, we all love you and Fullhouse and we are so glad and grateful you got through this OK and that you are feeling so much better. I know you'll be careful, live healthy and do what the doctors and Fullhouse say.

she does not write often but i know they mean a lot to her and give her strength to push on.

=^^= We were all worried about her and knew that this is a very difficult and scary time for her...What a frightening thing for her to go through. I hope she had some support and family members looking after her as well.

Love

Cat =^^=

well in this typically male dominated area maybe it's time for me to lay back and let fh take charge.
