I will be getting married in about 10 months. My fiance has very bad credit and I was wondering if once we get married will his bad credit go on my record, and affect my credit? Another thing is do we have to file for taxes together or can we do it seperatly? Please help.

Lilly<P> I know where you're coming from. My husband too, had bad credit, but I don't know how that affected me. We never had any joint accounts except for savings/checking. Call a credit company to find out if it does and what you can do about it.<BR> As for taxes, i'm not an accountant either, but we got married in late Nov. and we still had to file together. Wisconsin, where I'm from, has marital property laws such that after the wedding, everything that's yours is his and vice versa, including credit histories, debts, etc. Other states have different laws.<P>If your fiance's credit is bad, maintain your own checking and savings accounts, and of course credit accounts, until he cleans it up (he is working on it, right?) A word of caution - don't pay a "credit counseling" agency money to clean up his credit record, they can't do anything for you that you can't do yourself for free.<P>Best wishes!
