Reminds me of what happened at my house last weekend.

H was doing something with the alternator on his beloved Triumph (which I refer to as his 1st child!).

He comes into the kitchen with dirty greasy hands...(mind you he had to walk past the garage sink) and looked as though he wanted to wash his hands in the kitchen sink!

Yech, I said..."what about washing your hands in the garage sink, since I just cleaned the kitchen sink"?

"Oh, Ok.... he said". Whew!! I feel like I pulled one off without offending him!!!
oh dear, nothing like some good car grease in the kitchen sink! Good catch, CSue!
Melody! I got it right away when I saw your T-fal pic!

So all of you ladies, what you're showing me is - I'M NOT NUTS! I KNEW it!!! Men are -- MEN!

Phil would weed the poison ivy from our yard -big deposit. Then he'd clean up in the kitchen, wipe PI juice on the dish-towels and leave them (to be used by me later) - huge withdrawal!

To this day he still doesn't understand why that was troubling to me... MEN! :-)

Mel, you ought to see if you can market the pic (w/concept) to a greeting card company. It's that good!
:-)

*GASP*

Does the man not have his very own Oil Changing Pan? Good heavens!! Or, like mine, could he not find his in the lair he calls his garage and so he rummaged in YOUR domain?

The desecration!!!

See, at this point, I would usually turn over the ruined pan to him to use as his own, but wouldn't that be rewarding bad behavior???

We must think of an appropriate punishment, lol.

Why waste money on an oil changing pan when there are so many in the kitchen??? He has a treasure trove of potential tools in my kitchen, he seems to think!

{{{{{shudder}}}}}}} MEN!
ok, I have not said anything to him, but here is what puzzles me. I cannot for the life of me understand why he insists on changing the oil HIMSELF when it can be done quickly and easily at oil change places! For $20 something bucks! I don't get it....
Posted By: nikko Re: Making deposits and taking withdrawals! - 05/08/05 02:50 AM
ok--i have to ask---what did he do, or is gonna do with the old oil???
Doesn't that pan cost more than $20?!?
:-)

Let's see, cost of pan, plus cost of time, plus debits against Love Bank? That's a hefty price tag! I haven't done this since sleep away camp and if anyone brings it up I'll deny it, but what about freezing H's favorite underwear in ground meat?

Sally
nikko, he said he puts the oil in our old Tide detergent gallon containers [I wondered why he saved those! ] and takes them to the "oil place."

Sally, you have a great mind! I think I did pay much more than $20 for that pan!
So Melody Lane, are you having a nice roast dinner today. You won't need to baste the chicken! TT

We will call it Texas Gold Roast!
Yummy, it's almost worth wasting a chicken on. Cook it and serve it up and videotape the reaction!

lol

Look, Men know you gotta season a good pan with a little oil....fully synthetic is as good as olive surely ?

LOL !
Yep I saw the 'PROBLEM' right away..

I still find the good stainless steel pots full of oil or grease & tools and no matter how many times the hands on hips and foot stamping ... he 'forgets'..

This is a MALE thing, they can't go out mark their territory any more - you know those stupid exposure laws - so they subsitute the 'car' for this ancient tradition... hehheh

I mean I have put an engine together on the farm, a tracter diff repair - you know changed the teeth thingies & plastic things in the round bit, well I think it was the diff [whatever that is] anyway the tractor worked after that - and all I got for thanks was a scowl to stay away from HIS tractor. Of course he being away for 5 months would have no effect on the need to do fire breaks ...
didn't you know that wheat grass isn't ALLOWED to grow until he oks' it??? silly girl

I don't understand what you mean about the razor ... I mean I did my legs with it twice and it worked perfectly!!!

Okay, help a newlywed out here and PLEASE tell me what's with the RAW POTATO????????

This information might be very valuable to me!!!!
Froz, I am not sure, but I seem to recall that using it on a raw tater makes it very dull. Papermom will have to fill us in on this!
Melody,

Thanks for trying...my heartfelt condolences regarding your roasting pan.

Now, Mel. Correct me if I am wrong, here, Hon, but most Men (I've noticed this a lot in TX, where I live) have this deep, inherent compulsion to repair, restore, fix. . . DO things on their own, no matter how clumsy or pathetic their attempts may be to us, the uneducated wives. : men affirm with rowdy Tim Allen grunts : It is a vertiable fact that a man can spend $20.99 for an Oil Change at Jiffy Lube (or, you can take the car in on Lady's Days fot the cheaper Special, lol!) or he can be a Real Man and show his family that he can do it himself {snicker - lo, poor roasting pans; en gaurd, beloved broilers!), sometimes resulting in substantially more $.

Not all men feel this compulsion. . . I believe it does get watered down a bit, depending on region and time and expense, the need to be fulfilled in this manner, effort, level of appreciation from the family, level of basic understanding of automobiles, etc. But it is undeniabley there. I've just learned to accept it. :shrugging resignedly: Heck, after Tiger has spent all of the initial money on accumulating. . . things. . . then we actually start to save money, at some point.

This is supposing, of course, that he doesn't toss my kitchen in search of the perfect oil pan, the ideal-sized and shape Phillips, or the instant anti-freeze container, thus emptying all of my fresh herbs into a holey zip-loc.

Sigh.

Exactamundo! DH LOVES to fix things! Except this one just happens to be a yankeeboy who hails from Chicago. [don't ask.... ] You should see how excited he looks when something breaks and I ask him to fix it. He LOVES it!

And silly me, to surprise him after his back surgery a last year, I hired a nice lawn man to come do our lawn work every week. Well...... DH was horrified and let the man go! He could hardly stand up and walk, but by golly, he was going to do his own lawn!
P.S. in case anyone is wondering, I am exceptionally grateful that my DH is such a wonderful handiman and I tell him this often! He is very smart and can fix almost anything - I show my gratitude often. I didn't even get mad at him about ruining my favorite prime rib roast pan.
A yankeeboy? Well, whad ya expect?

Maybe your roasting pan will meet my Tupperware and Rubbermaid storage containers in Men's Spur of the Moment Tool Heaven. Seems they make mighty fine varnish containers.

At least you got to say goodbye...I never saw mine again.
TooOld, I shudder to imagine what other "gems" are out in our garage! I suspect the roasting pan was just the tip of the iceburg.

Well Ms Mel, me thinks this incident was diliberately setup so you would catch him in the action and demand not only dinner out on Sunday but roses, champange, spa pkg and a nice weekend get away in about 1 month (give him time to save up on other pho pa's to come). LOL!!!

BTW, I showed it to my H and he just laughed. Yep experienced it my household also. These boys seem to think that 'tools of the trade' utensils are meant t/b used in the garage.... I have lost colandars, funnels, tupperware, etc all unknown to me UNTIL I needed them. I almost made him wear the colandar on his head. His lousy excuse was that I had plemty of containers and probably wanted to buy a new one (which I didn't).

The part that pisses me off is that I kept an area where I kept some bottles, old plastic containers and other items they could use in the garage.

Would I have given up some of my 'tools' if asked? Maybe, bue definitely NOT the ones they selected. See rummmaging through my kitchen seems t/b an adventure for those boys in my house. Imagine hearing a voice in my kitchen saying: 'Whoopie, look what mom has, we can use this to build our......'. YIKES!!!!

Over and way out in the pacific.

L.
Howdy, Orchid! It appears that men everywhere are the same! Good to see ya!
