Well, here I sit on pins and needles waiting for the settlement agent to come to my house.

X is outside with son and I am about to become the sole owner of my property!!!!!

It's been a long tough 4 years, but I have come a long, long way.

Full time college student (presidents list, will graduate with 2 degrees, not one!)

new home owner (and it appraised for 50K more than when we had it appraised for the divorce, but I wont tell X that!!!)
And to top that off, new life with an old boyfriend from 32 years ago. Yes, I am happy.

Thanks for being there everyone!!!
Smiles,
Dawn

Yes, I am very happy tonite and I have God to thank for seeing me through.

bumped the vacation update up for you. Thank you for your kind words.

Settlement was a little rocky, that is until X left and I continued to sign my part. He was extremely nasty and even used quite a few curses with the settlement agent. Made it sound like I was ripping him off.

I made it clear to him when he left that he was not ever to walk in house again without knocking, can still come to visit with kids if they want him to come, he is not to just stop by..if the kids are home and dont answer phone it is because they dont want to see him. And of course he made several derogatory remarks about my fiance and he has never even met him

But he wont destroy me anymore, and I am now going to celebrate being a homeowner!!!!!!

Smiles,
Dawn

Dawn,
Thank you for sharing.

This reminds me of The Notebook!
Have you seen the movie?

That is an awesome story!

Like you, I also have been in a relationship that was going nowhere so I ended it. Though mine somewhat different. This man was wonderful to me, he never lied, we just were two different people.

I hope to be sincerely happy one day, just like you.
But, until then, I will remain happy for you!

Thank you again for sharing your story. It is amazing!!

As for your X, well, sounds like he is just sour grapes!
I'm sure he had a little coming to him!!

Take care of yourself, and be happy with who you have become!
I might add, it must have felt pretty good to tell him not to walk in as he wished!
I did the same to my X.
I'm in a home that we did not share, none the less, he felt since he pays alimony, he owns it.
I made it clear, it is NOT his home.

Be strong, Live well.

K.

Congratulations! I'm sure it's great to have this hurdle behind you, and with $50k to your favor too! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

I'm a few steps behind you with the house settlement thing. I realize that all situations are different...but what is a "settlement agent"? Is this something your lawyer recommended or was required? Does he settle general divorce things like a mediator, or house-related things? (I've never heard of that term before.) I've had my house appraised privately, for my info, but won't use that unless it helps me, of course.

The settlement agent is a rep from the title company. She/he only handles things relating to the transfer of the title of the house.

My X signed off on the quit-claim (he has no more claims to this house other than the figure that my lawyer worked out for his portion of the equity..X will recieve that out of my loan procedes from the refinance.

Because it was considered a refi with a cash out, only the settlement agent (and X, really only to transfer the title) had to be there and they came to my house when it was conveinent for me.

other than my X being extremely nasty, everything worked out great and I had nice celebratory weekend. Got to go to a Steve Green concert last nite too. He was fantastic!!!

And doing remodel stuff on MY HOUSE today!!!!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />
