I'll never forget the day in May '01 when OM dropped off my son at baseball practice. Fortunately, he saw me waiting from a distance and didn't get close. Not sure what I would have done had the opportunity for a closer encounter occurred.

What is working for me is to maintain the belief that someday my son will better understand who the better man was and is.

Repeat after me:

I am better than OM.

Whenever I say this here someone invaribly chastises me for "judging" others. Baloney.

Someone else will wonder why I'm angry and bitter after all this time? Huh? Where have you been, under a rock? My only surviving son spends half his life in the vicinity of an obsenity masquerading as a man? And you wonder why I don't like that??

But maintaining the higher road is EXACTLY how you maintain the higher road. YOU ARE THE HIGHER ROAD!!!

Hey, thanks for the vent.

Let's go fishing.

QUOTE] Let's go fishing [/QUOTE]

An open invitation to you and your son: mountain air and gin clear streams, elk, moose, deer, wolves and grizzlies. The gently sweep of a fly rod across a blue sky unsullied by the shadow of a skyscraper or the smog of a million commuters. Followed by an evening fire at the cabin to reminisce upon the day’s events to boot. Don't get much better than that.

ark's top three (If I can come up with them...)response
to anyone who would say such a thing...

3. stick tongue out... slightly purse lips around tongue...and blow...
bllleeeetttthhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

2. reply..."oh I judge him to be lots of things...but no need to go on and on and on and on and on"....

1.
I think my favorite response..would be...

'no shi* sherlock."...

not very original...
but I cringe everytime someone attempts to call foul...and throws in the judgement word....
grrrr

I love fishing...been a long time...

WAT I too am better by far in almost every worthwhile way than OM, particularly in modesty

Its true - he's a scrounging wastrel serial womanizing, short-arsed petty criminal with a seventies mullet and he dress sense of my dead dad. And a liar and an infidel to boot.
I think it actually helps me to KNOW he's a scumbag. I only pray Squid realises that sooner rather than later.

Having said that, he's not good enough to carry my jock-strap.

BTW, he's also 160 lbs. soaking wet. I'm 6'1" 210 lbs. and never had more than 10% body fat. My CV will never match his, but it's hard to defend yourself with a stack of credentials.

Jeeez...I'm going it again! High road....high road...think high road.

You're on for fishing. I note you didn't say "ice fishing" and that's kinda hard with a fly rod anyway. I usually don't fish unless I can be barefooted. (However, this HAS resulted in feeling the ooze of a cow chip squeezing between my toes.) So ice fishing is not my first preference. But we will have to balance a trip up the the NW with a trip way down SE in the islands, mon.

WAT..

(However, this HAS resulted in feeling the ooze of a cow chip squeezing between my toes.)

ummmm I don't know how to tell you this...but if you're stepping on cowchips...when fishing...
you may want to change your location...

unless there is typically livestock kept on your boat...that I can relate to..

perhaps it was a typo and you meant worms or squid-bait between your toes...
you know...senility and other stuff associated with "older" and wiser folks...

LOL arkie!

I was referring to fishing at a nice quiet farm pond on a still, hot, humid, peaceful morning with a fly rod.

{cue background sounds}> mooooOOOOOOooooo
> swish, swish (fly rod sound)
> squiiiiiiissshhhhhhh (ooze through toes)
WAT: "dern, but fresh!"

But you're right, stepping barefooted on squid on a boat is close!

Do you prefer to rip off the squid's head and tentacles THEN cut up the body for bait, or leave the head and tentacles on to use as a handle?

Apologies to Bob - knowing his pet name for his W is "squid." But it's terrific fish bait!

Now wait a darn minute everyone. Fishing on a woosy lake? Ice fishing? COme on now. THat is NOT fishing. Fishing is on the ocean. You know that great big salty thing that looks like a lake but has waves and REAL weather.

Now, out here on the Pacific (Ocean), there are rules for fishing. REAL rules.... Beer, of course. But only Real beer which has to be at the very least 6% alcohol. Not that baby stuff. And, you must have rum and coke. TO fight off the chill or seasickness. Take your pick.

Of course there are Boat boys. They do the killing of the fish and the cleaning, too! And they wait on the women like nobody's business because we are just learning how to do all this fishing stuff. (As I cough into my double rum and coke and squeal at that poor 15 pound salmon that I just caught)

Now That's fishing.

Jeepers, a guy tries to get some sage advice from the learned folks at MB and look what happens. This thread’s a runaway. Were even starting to attract the Idiotville folks!

Ah well, life is too important to take seriously.

ARK, as I am guaranteed weather here approaching –40 on occasion, I humbly offer my boat boy services during Jan/Feb. I would be more than willing to bring refreshing adult beverages to you and fan the rest of the ladies on a boat where high fashion does not consist of Mukluks and a toque. However, at that time of year us Canucks look like albino cave dwellers and some SPF 8000 sunscreen would be appreciated.

BTW I'm still not convinced you and Pep aren't the same person...so don't try and tell me she would be there too. It's all part of your clever charade.

And as previously mentioned.... when it comes to bait......I’m the master!

PEP/ARK:

quote:
like how much I enjoy excising a big ripe pus boil on a man's backside ... yummmmmmmmmm

I know you’re a nurse practitioner, I’m married (sort of) to a nurse.....you can’t gross me out.

Dealan-De

I think boat boys are like Cabana boys....with less opportunity to escape.

Fighting....As I live in only one of two land locked provinces, the salmon fishing is a little sporadic. The boys from work like to drive out to Kitimat to get the salmon coming up river, but that’s a looooong drive.....longer if you pay attention to the speed limit.

Hey, I love fishing.....out in the deep blue. Heck I don't need a boat, just cast that line with a 3 pound weight right from the crag up top!! LOL!!!

I can rip off bait with my teeth and guzzle beer (safely of course - pinky extended) as good as the next gal. LOL!!!! Now as for ripping the bleches....well I only did that in my prego days and H says it was louder than a sailors. Eeewwwhhhh...betcha that's more than you all needed to hear. LOL!!!!

Ok Binder, how big is that ice hole gonna get or better yet, WAT, when R U gonna really test your boat out in the THE GREAT BLUE Pacific?!?!?!

I have a 2nd fridge all ready to load up and hand you the bottles as you sail on by.

Aloha,
L.

BTW, is this thread getting waaay off subject here?
