What movies have a storyline that starts to include an A but avoids it?
I can think of Matthew McConnahey's character as the rookie lawyer who starts to get 'involved' with Sandra Bullock's law student character, but he wises up and goes home in "A Time to Kill". The theme was very difficult, but I was glad they avoided the A factor.
Are there any others?

setfree, to my horror, I have to admit that I was once so dense that I viewed Bridges of Madison County as a sweet, romantic story! It is about as "romantic" as 2 pigs rutting in the pig pen. OINK! Meryl Streep and Robert Redford were nothing more than filthy PIGS in that movie. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> My entertainment choices have changed dramatically because the old LEFT BRAIN was awakened to the truth of what I was really seeing. Does a book count? Dear John, by Nicholas Sparks. He could have interrupted a happy marriage but chose to support instead. Probably wont get made into a movie.

Music is what does it to me! I can't stand "Lips of an Angel", it came on one day in the car and I changed stations, which my middle son protested b/c he liked that song. So I explained to him what it's about and why I hated it, and he agreed it's a bad song! I also hate the 80's song "I Just Wanna Use Your Love Tonight" (not sure if that's the actual title) and "Sad Eyes."

My H can recognize "Lips of an Angel" "Stay" and others in the first three notes and change them for me before I even figure out what the song is. I've learned that if he immediately changes the station when a song is coming on, it's probably one I've spoken about.

On the "good news" side, in last weeks episode of "Brothers and Sisters" there were two very good examples of "taking the higher ground". An estranged husband had a ONS with his secretary and the next morning when his partner came in and saw the OW in the same clothes she yanked her co-worker into the office and said "OK, one time was a mistake, if you do it again it is a decision. Think about what you're doing" Later, one of the single sisters managed to put on the brakes to a bad-choice sexual encounter before it was too late. I was amazed...it was the first time I'd seen the show and I'll watch it again...even if it does have Calista Flockhart... <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

I am not a fan of Angelina unJolly or Brand Pitt but at what point do we say, ok their marriage is a farce, but they are using their profile to do some good in the world. They give huge amounts of money to charity - really needy causes - and those children they have adopted have been taken from such dire circumstances and given a real chance in life.
I was watching a program the other day where celebrities were showing off their cars. They had heaps of cars - cars that cost thousands of dollars; hundreds of thousands of dollars. As I was watching it I was thinking if I had all that money, I'd rescue the babies, not buy the cars.
So did something positive come from their union? Personally, I'm working on it. Regardless of where they end up maritally, I think they have done something good together.

Ace Quickly, here are two (more later) Doris Day and David Niven in "Don't Eat the Daisies" James Stewart and Maureen O'Hara in "Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation" Both really good movies where the wives busted up the affair before it had a chance to grow.

They were both very powerful stars in their own right-they could each have done philanthropic work WITHOUT destroying a marriage-Also, Angelina had already adopted one child on her own with plans to adopt more-clearly she didn't need Brad to continue that...I do not think that we excuse adultery just because they have done some good things with their celebrity and their money...The adultery still counts just as much-there has been no repentance...They continue in sin...God did NOT release Brad Pitt from the marriage covenant... I've heard many people defend them because "they are doing good things".
That just burns me up. Brad could have done good things while married to his WIFE; AJ could have done good things while married to whoever she used to be married to.
There is NO justification for what they are doing; I have ZERO respect for them.
I suppose I could leave my husband tomorrow and hook up with a married surgeon and go to Africa to work among the needy tribes, while leaving our original families behind. Would that be noble? I don't think so.

I think my viewing habits for this type of media has changed.
I don't really mind when the media depicts what are the real consequences of infidelity, nor do I mind so much when the writers use infidelity as a generic "the marriage had problems" plot ploy.
The ones that irk me are the "foggy" films or TV shows. Where the A is beautiful and righteous, and if they bother to show the BS or the family, the A turns out to be good for them too. Soon as I see one of these types I turn it off.
I think the other thing that has changed, is how quickly I can tell an A is coming in this film or TV show.

Mrs W, I'm not questioning whether God has forgiven them or whether they are showing repentance. I have no great expectations of either of them. And, in fact, I am totally digressing from the theme of the thread, for which I am sorry. I'm just saying that I'm glad their union has benefitted many children's charities. I live in Asia. I've seen the poverty. I am powerless to do much about it. While our kids were out trick and treating getting bagfulls of revolting candy, many children were without food, without medicine and even without water. I would use my celebrity to try and provide for such children if I had that power. I am not aware whether BP did much for charity prior to hooking up with AJ.
