Wow,

I knew this site was going to be helpful, and it has.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond, and providing the answers to my original question.

We are on a family vacation and I don't want to take time away from my wife or the family, so I won't be able to respond for a week or so.

FWIW, I don't think it's possible to put a lover back into the friend box, even when there is no marriage affected by it. Many people shy off of developing a deeper relationship with someone who is/has been a good friend BECAUSE it destroys the friendship. Friends can become lovers. Lovers can never become friends.
