I love this country and it's well rounded ideals!!
Another ? for you....
Is it not socialist for me to have to pay out of my pocket via medicare for anothers FREE RX's???
What about men's issues??
If I'm not mistaken Prostate cancer kills more men than does breast cancer???
What about fathers reproductive rights???
I tend to agree that there isn't much difference between Dem and Rep...However, Republicans aren't trying to overtly userp my individual freedoms....
Did you read my previous reply at the beginning of this thread??
Bill

They just have different freedoms in their sights.
With Republicans in control of the White House, Senate, House, Supreme Court, and 30 State Governer's offices, I worry that things could tip in favor of social conservatism, legislated morality, and court decisions that could adversely affect the rights of women and minorities.
In case you're wondering, I'm going for some third-party candidate, since neither Bush nor Gore fits with my own fiscally conservative/socially liberal ideals.
One thing that scares me is what I mentioned above. If Bush wins the election, one party will be in control of virtually all the federal government. I don't think our Founding Fathers would be happy to see us inching, even slowly, towards one-party rule.
Cjack,
Remember how it was in the 6o's when the Democrats controlled the whole Gov't?
We got Viet Nem....and LBJ's wonderful welfare programs....
If the libertarians had a chance I'd vote that way....since they don't GW is the best chance I have in seeing some of these absurd socialistic policies reversed.
Bill

He's a liberal, and he wants far too much of my money than I'm willing to give, but to brand him as a Marxist is unfair. I studied Marx a bit in college, and I don't think Gore is in favor of state control of everything!
Certainly, federal programs like LBJ's and Roosevelt's were failures, but the corporate welfare we have today is hardly better. Republicans are just as guilty of wasting tax dollars as the Democrats. While Gore would continue federal subsidies to farmers, small businesses, tobacco companies, and such, Bush would probably sign bills continuing huge tax breaks and subsidies for giant corporations like Nike, Archer Daniels Midland, and others. While special interest groups like the Sierra Club and Greenpeace funnel cash to Gore, the oil companies and defense contractors are hard at work trying to buy the Bush/Cheney ticket. Whichever candidate wins, they will use our tax dollars to pay back those favors. That's why I can't bring myself to vote for either of these guys.
Sure, Browne or Hagelin have no chance to win, but it would be cold comfort to know I had voted for a "winner" whom I didn't really want to win.
If you really want a Libertarian to win, vote for him. He may not win this time, but if enough people like you said "enough is enough," maybe the two big parties would start to listen to us, instead of just listening to their major contributors.

Cjack,
I like GW. I see 3rd parties that haven't a chance as a detriment to his chances....If The libertarians had a viable chance as in The UK's third party does I may change my opinion. It won't be a cold comfort to vote for GW.
Corporate welfare is as much rubbish as the Trade Deficit. This a a leftist media tag given to try to continue their class warfare.
I don't see Gore as a Communist but he is a socialist if I ever saw one. I think the republicans place alot more faith in our ability to make our own decisions.
The other thing is how Gore would try to continue the systimatic repeal of the 2nd amendment. GW like me is a lifetime member of the NRA.
Well I have enjoyed this debate today but I have to scoot, things to do places to go, and people to see.
Bill

GWB gets my vote for character and policy. The idea of watching Gore everynight on the news is so unappealing to me!

GORE!!!!!!!
The irony of anyone saying that they are voting for Bush because he has character frightens me! If he has such good character, why then, within the past year, did he LIE and say that he had not been arrested since 1968 when in fact he was arrested AND CONVICTED of drunk driving in 1976. You don't forget that. Also, he has all but admitted his fairly recent cocaine use and heavy alcohol abuse - he just didn't ever get arrested for it. Wonder why not?
There is Nothing to blemish Al Gore's good character except Republican mud slinging.
Bush says all the things that any moron would like to hear, but he is all FLUFF with no idea how to accomplish any of his prattle. His father is an intelligent man who earned his stripes with years of hard work in a tough political world. G W, however, is a happy go lucky spoiled little Frat boy who never grew up. Look at that smirk he wears on his face much of the time and tell me...... would you really buy a used car from that man?

I don't think anyone condones drinking and driving. But at least Gov. Bush took the heat
without running back to his Daddy. (who at the time was a prominent political figure).
Al Gore was on a talk show last week and revealed that he ran from police, while on
his motorcycle because, he had three other people on his bike at the time. (I find that
hard to beleive!)
I just think the timing was a little too suspicious. I mean 4 days before the election. The judge had the arrest record pulled 4 months before, so it seems that the whole thing was planned.
It's not about TV entertainment.
(not to pick on anyone in particular -- this has been mentioned more than once.)
As a native TN & a TX for the last 19 yrs, if I had gotten the change of address for out of the country done in time I vote for BUSH.
He was raised right which is more than you can say for Gore. He calls himself a Tennessean, I think my children have spent more time in TN than he has. George W has proven he can work with both parties, as he did in the TX leg. & it is never easy working with Texans of different parties.
Thank goodness my not voting will not hurt the vote in TX, wish I could have registered in TN.
Whoever wins we still have the greatest country & political system in the world, & we know that if it does end up in the Electoral College that it will be done peacefully. God Bless America.

I am going to vote for Jean Chretian.
If I were American I would vote for Al Gore. Don't know much about him, But I like Clinton, so wouldn't he serve your country somewhat like him? I think Clinton did much to turn your country around. He certainly brought a lot of attention to it anyway ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/grin.gif)

You're right about the attention anyway. Made us the laughing stock of the world!!
I'm voting for Harry Brown. Posted a thread before, but didn't get too many bites. Here it is:
http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/Forum37/HTML/006108.html
(Had to go search for it, why doesn't it come up on a name search anymore?)

In the final analysis I suppose one would do just about as good a job as the other. I lean toward a conservative point of view, and I like Bush's "spit and fire" persona as compared to Gore's competent but "wooden" personality. Guess I can overlook Bush's youthful penchant for driving with an open can of Busch ![[Linked Image from marriagebuilders.com]](http://www.marriagebuilders.com/forum/images/icons/smile.gif) Guess I'm pretty shallow this year, huh?
Rockaway

Somebody...
please explain to me...how any candidtate that favors the partial extraction of a fully developed baby from it's mother's womb in which a needled is inserted into the back of the skull and 'conviently' extinguishes it's life before it is fully born...can have have any respect for human life?????????
If he believes in supporting a woman's 'right' to carry out this procedure on a baby, what gives us any reason to believe he gives a rat's a** about anything else of value in this world?????
Oh...by the way...less than 5% of the 30+ million babies aborted in the last 27 years...were conceived as a result of incest or rape.
And...prior to Roe vs. Wade...whenever a decision for the life of a mother was on the line...aborting the child was never an issue. They always sought to save the life of the mother.
Oh...and one other question...regarding Clinton and the economy... Just WHAT has his government done...to improve the economy?
I thought it was You...the hard working citizens...that utilized your skills, talents, and ingenuity...that has brought about the prosperity. Is it possible...that Clinton just happened to be at the right place at the right time...and got credit for it?
And...what would it profit a man (or nation) if they gained the whole world, yet lost their soul?
[This message has been edited by lighthouse (edited November 06, 2000).]

My, my a lot of you are so judgemental - based on past practices of a party or who they may have worked with?.
How many of you would want your spouse to lose his/her job because of their infidelity?
Just had to get my thoughts out - there is no perfect answer out there - I just pray a lot. How can one person please all of the people all of the time? Can't be done - especially in these times.
lighthouse,
But have you noticed that even on this important issue, the right to life of the unborn, the positions between Republicans and Democrats are not very different???
I would truly love to see the Libertarians take office in the next 10-20 years.
Their platform is that the government's only Constitutional role is in the protection of its citizens life, liberty and property. Not in social engineering or telling me what color to paint my fence!
You are entirely correct that the economy has grown from the information age DESPITE the government. Just think how much better it could be!
Unfortunately I do not believe that reversing Roe v. Wade would significantly reduce the number of abortions. I have volunteered in Crisis Pregnancy Clinics. I think the only real way to stem the tide is to educate women on the biological realities of pregnancy.
