In this little book, it states that REAL fruit bearing is your only permanent deposit in heaven (based on scripture, John 15:16) And it's the main earthly reason we were saved. There are two kinds of fruit bearing, inner and outward.
In inner fruit bearing you allow God to nurture your Christlike qualities: Love, Joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control .. all are fruit of the Spirit.
What struck me out of the fruit bearing qualities was the "longsuffering". Can you tell me why it's necessary for us to experience longsuffering? All of the others are enriching fruits and I can equate them with happiness. Yet the longsuffering somehow feels like accept martyrdom or a painful life but still somehow experince joy in tandem??? I'm confused.
Jo

I just looked up Galations 5:22 in my study Bible and that version uses the word patience instead of longsuffering.
Definitely a positive fruit!! and something that we talk about here often... that we have learned patience and to trust in God's Will for us.
Hope that helps, Hugs... Cali

Cali has it exactly! Jesus was longsuffering. He didn't deserve any of the bad treatment he got but he was patient and forgiving and NEVER did resentment build in him for being patient or understanding of our human imperfection. He loved us all in spite of our failings and went on to the cross, quite longsuffering wouldn't you say?. We are to strive to be Christ-like.Longsuffering describes one of our Lord's attributes,it doesn't imply we joyfully live a life of misery .
