Dr John Hoover:

quote:
Ultimate success in living happily with an idiot-whether spouse, child, other relative or roommate-depends upon your willingness to search out and embrace your own inner idiot. We all have one. Some just pop out more often than others do. By learning the art of setting realistic expectations, resentments will diminish and relationships can be rekindled based on strengths rather than continuing to whither on weaknesses. This book offers practical, useful advice for all of us who have to deal with the many true idiots in our lives, but helps us laugh at them, too.

My W bought this book for me, I don't know whether to laugh or be offended.

Goodmorning & thanks for laugh

Coffee callin with double choco muffin, mmmmmmm
Then there's the late John Muir's book (not the Yosemite Muir):

"How to keep your Volkswagen alive: A step by step manual for the compleat idiot"

Predates the "dummies" books by a number of years. I like what he said about safety bumpers and shoulder straps:

"If we all drove around like we were strapped to the front bumper like Aztec sacrifices, there'd be a helluva lot less accidents!"

2l Reminds me of what my Dad used to say. " Airbags ? Don;t talk to me about airbags. A bettr safety aid would be a six inch spike on the steering boss ! "
TMCM,

I love quotes that offer huge rewards while coupled with their own brevity.

One of my favorites

" Never argue with a fool"
Cy:

I like those 2. Like Mark Twain's

"It's better 2 remain silent and be thought a fool, than 2 speak up and remove all doubt."

I had this book. I used it to repair my 72 Super Beetle, and my Westfalia Camper Van. (sniff - I miss those vehicles) One of my favs was, "if you're a hippie, you're gonna want to put your hair in a bandanna for this repair..." LMAO. Great book!
how funny is this---not three hours ago i had that book in my hand at barnes and noble....lololol! hubby was with me so i put it back and got john eldridge's book instead, wild at heart. in the meantime i notice that hubby is looking in my area of bookstore...(all the relationship self-help stuff) i realize he's looking at "101 quickie's"!!!!!

Nio:

In advising the reader on how 2 evaluate the condition of a VW van they might be thinking of buying, he says something like "get in the back and ponder, have happy people been back here, balling and talking and laughing and living??"

I miss my 1967 Microbus. Still had the original headliner when I sold it, even though it had over 400,000 miles on it. At one time, I had 8 VW buses and one singlecab pickup. 2 of them ran.

I've literally rebuilt enough wind-cooled VWs that I could do it now without a manual, maybe even blindfolded. One of my FAVORITE illustrations in that book is the one with the couple in bed - the W is fast asleep, but the H's laying there with his eyes bugging out with the balloon of what he's thinking showing an exploded diagram of a VW engine down 2 the last part... ...I've DONE THAT.

Now, I drive "new" rides, but I still have the 1960 singlecab... ...and it RUNS, 2! (but it looks like shi.....fty eyes!)
