I still love my wife and kids, but our marriage is totally empty. We are building a new house, and my wife wants us to stay together as roommates. I've been thinking of separating while we build the house and coming back together after the house is built.

Does anyone have any experience with a short term separation?

I don't know anything about your situation, but my knee jerk reaction is:

Don't do it!

I personally believe that you are always moving towards happily ever after or moving towards divorce. But I don't have any idea how to do this M thing right, so take my words with a grain of salt.
