Does anybody here play World of Warcraft?

This was a major LB for both of us. I was always annoyed with him playing the "stupid game" and he was always disappointed that I wouldn't try to play it with him.

After d-day I decided to give it a try. I LOVE IT! I just wish I'd given in much sooner. We now have two computers set up side by side. We're close enough that we can and do just reach over and give the other a hug/kiss. It's been great for us. Playing together as a team and strategizing together has brought us so much closer together. It sounds kind of weird, but it's been a blast! Definitely one of the best moves I've ever made.

So now I'm just wondering if anybody else plays. There are over 11 million accounts, so it just seems like somebody else from here must be on. Just thought I'd ask for fun. grin

Well, I have a bad opinion of WOW. I've never even looked at it, but there have been many here who slipped into affairs with other players.

However, I think it is good that you are playing with hubby.

WOW has caused many an affair.

I will never play it. I've watched a boy destroy himself and rob himself of an incredibly rich cultural experience in a foreign country because while he was here, he could not pry himself away from the game. Even while disconnected from the internet, he'd "practice" for hours and hours, and days and days, missing out on school clubs, hiking in some of the most gorgeous countrysides you could ever come upon, and snubbing his host family's efforts to draw him out into a real life.

He was sent home before the end of the school year - where culturally such a thing brings shame on him and his family.

Yet to this day, I doubt he knows the root cause. Between WoW and porn, this boy's life will never amount to what it had the potential to become had he left the addictive stuff alone!

Never never never will this game be downloaded onto a computer I have any control over!

I will never play WoW. Having worked at a HS academy I saw many a student FAIL because they were in to WoW way too much!

Don't even want to see the damn game. May be fun, but in my opinion it's a time/energy/life-sucking game.

Just my opinion...

Our whole family plays! My wife and I have a lot of fun with the game, and her father also plays with us. I think, like lots of things, WoW can be good or bad. By a point of comparison, my former wife played and ended up in an affair with a guild member. smirk

There is no magical 'evil' stuff about the game. Some people are just obsessive and prone to evil. If it wasn't WoW, it would be something else.

I do! My whole family does.

As with many things in life it is about balance, moderation. You eat excessively you get fat, you drink excessively you could ruin your liver... so on and so forth. The game is no more addictive than any other passtime or hobby. To attribute a game with corrupting abilities is ridiculous.

I doubt that this game has lead to any affairs--- spending too much of your recreational time apart, placing too much emotional dependence in someone other than your spouse, that seems to be the key. It could just as easily happen with football spectating or scrapbooking or nights out 'with the boys' or 'with the girls' in this person's humble opinion.

I wouldnt say that it "caused" my affair. But the hours added up to days and the days added up to months and the months added up to years of time that my hubby played online games. Yes, he has invested years of time into MMORPG's, WoW included, but not exclusively. When he got bored with one game he would play another. It's not the game, its the time spent on it. Time that wasnt spent with me, which in turn made me feel lonely. Both my H and I had EA with other players of games we played. So what's most important is who you play with, and if you enjoy doing it together and it brings you closer, then that is great.

WoW was where I met the OM. I deeply regret getting so involved in the game. My H and I both played and had fun, but didnt play TOGETHER. Unfortunately we led different online gaming lives.

The game is fun dont get me wrong, but it has bad memories for both of us now.

My H and I first became friends by playing a "MUD" (a text-based game - yes, we're old!). We were acquaintances in RL and we were in the room together as we played, it just deepened our friendship through the time we spent together.

We are both too busy now for online games... well maybe if I gave up MB I'd have more time! LOL

I am not interested in getting into WoW cus I get too involved/addicted to those things. But I'm sure it's fun. If you play in moderation and with your H, if you're using it as RC time, then I guess that's good, if you maintain appropriate boundaries against spending too much time online and forming too close attachments with others.

I have never played WOW but I play Astro Empires online with a group of all male friends. Not many of the opposite sex fit in with us. lol

My son is a WoW player. He is 10 and gets 2 hours grace to play on the PC.

My Mrs gets 15hrs and more of me /week but she feels that MB is distracting from more time with her. She likes the many good things I have learned and somewhat miffed if I label a problem that she needs to address.

I'm surprised that there are not more people like myself that don't have this problem.

I've had the criticism about MB from some people I've dated or from friends. My current GF likes it and is glad I'm on it and am learning things from it. She's recommended it to other friends of hers who have had troubled marriages and they've liked it.

WoW? Never played it. But my exww and I use to play Red Alert 2 together and it was amongst the most fun we had as a couple since we would team up against other people. She'd always laugh when she'd kick someone's butt and would tell them "you just got beat by a girl!" to rub it in.

We were about to sit down to play it when I put the pieces together that she was pregnant when she claimed she was craving a can of tuna and buttered waffles before a game. Sort of a clue.

I think that enjoying an online game together could be as much of a bonding experience for a couple as doing anything together whether it be biking, dancing, chess, or anything else. As long as it's in moderation and you do other stuff.

Red Alert 2 was something we enjoyed when our DD was put to bed and it was a better way to spend time together in the evenings than watching TV.

So it's all about balance.

I have no current plans to game with anyone. Find that i play less as I've gotten older (but still love to when I'm free).

ahh pom, I've tried to get you to play Starcraft, but the interaction with the kids (mine and yours) always took priority!

Now that I am reliving my youth (Grade school) through my kids I have even less time.

Starcraft is a RTS based on Warcraft but its not a MMORPG though.

Does Warcraft and World of Warcraft have any direct relation besides both being from Blizzard?

I spent many an hour playing Starcraft with my buddies before I was married. That was a fun game for me.

I once was a gamer and I've been obsessive about some games in the past. I've never met a girl that likes video games. Didn't know they existed.

WW grew up without a television or a computer in her house. She hates video games and watching television. I chose to give up television and video games after being married to her and I haven't regretted it one bit. I have nothing against video games or tv if done in moderation though.

But I've found a lot of other things to do to replace tv and video games....like MB! I read a lot more now, which is cool. I never was much of a reader growing up and books are actually pretty neat! I also practice the keyboard and sing more.

I have been spending too much time online though whether on this site or socializing websites, etc. So I am going to start leaving my laptop at work and force myself to think outside the laptop. It will be an interesting experiment.

Anyway, I'm sure I digressed...

For the person who asked about Warcraft and World of Warcraft and if they have anything in common besides both comming from Blizzard; yes they do.

Warcraft and its successors Warcraft II and III are RTS (real Time Strategy) games and the MMO World of Warcraft is based on the lore the first three games presented. So its basically the same worlds and cultures involved in both though one is a strategy game and the other a third person perspective RP game.

Also, Starcraft, besides being an RTS is nothing like Warcraft--- its just so much better and more dynamic in so many ways. Starcraft is the absolute height of RTS in my meger and humble opinion.

Oh and another thing they have in common-- Blizzard has made them increasingly less fun as time goes on :P yet still we pay and play. It's a great way to keep in touch with friends and family across the country.
