And when he does participate he complains incessantly? And this is pleasant or desirable because...

If you've clearly voiced your opinion, how can you define your boundries at this point? If he chooses to act badly in response to a reasonable request, you have the ball.

How do you define your boundries?

Do you think he would cooperate with a "mini vacation?" If so, at what level? And what do you want?
