We just discovered the hobby of letterboxing, and we're really enjoying it (the kids too).

Letterboxing is an intriguing “treasure hunt” style outdoor activity. Letterboxers hide small, weatherproof boxes in publicly-accessible places (like parks) and post clues to finding the box online on one of several Web sites (see below). There are about 20,000 letterboxes hidden in North America alone! Individual letterboxes usually contain a log book, an often hand-carved rubber stamp and may contain an ink pad. Finders make an imprint of the letterbox's stamp on their personal log book, and leave an imprint of their personal stamp on the letterbox's logbook.

The primary web site for letterboxing clues is www.letterboxing.org and this site will also tell you all you need to know to try it out! Another popular web site is www.atlasquest.com.

I read about it in Family Fun magazine. We have now found a number of letterboxes and placed two of our own.

Wow! This sounds really fun!

What type of thing would you have on a personal stamp? Are there any fees involved?

My 12 yr old son and I just did this. He thought it was going to be BORING as all kids do at that age. By the time we found the package, we were both excited and happy we had spent the time finding the treasure. We were the first ones of 2008 to find it. Thank You for the Site and Info. This beats the Geo-Caching, because you actually have to think to use this. Having a compass will help
