Okay folks,

On TTsi's thread there was talk of a TX get together. Back when I first came to this site, the Houston contingency would get together every few months and have a great time. I would like to suggest we revive that, so I am proposing a lunch get together this Friday - July 29. We can decide on a place once we have everyone weigh in on whether they can make it or not...so let's get started...I'm in.

Regards,

Darn, I sure wish I could come! But Houston is pretty far from me and I have a big meeting this Friday in Lufkin.

Melody,

Do you think if we planned enough ahead of time and made it on a weekend, we could get enough people interested to do a state-wide meet somewhere? (WOW, I might have some form of social life - if only for a weekend!) What do y'all think?

Posted By: MelodyLane Re: TX MB-er's - 07/25/05 12:17 PM
BB, there are strong possibilities to that idea! Maybe a lunch or a dinner somewhere?
Posted By: WasCrushedNTexas Re: TX MB-er's - 07/25/05 02:19 PM
I would be all for something like this after Labor Day weekend. Maybe something centrally located like Austin. Of course Padre or Mustang Island would be way cool as well! I cant do this weekend due to work.
Posted By: Momto3Boys Re: TX MB-er's - 07/25/05 03:05 PM
I think if we planned ahead it might work..but Texas is huge...between all of us on here, we probably live 600 miles from each other...I could make something on a weekend, but I am so far south, it would take me forever to get to a point..and once school starts, I am pretty much stuck in my spot! I wish I could make it!

DFW here. I have been home all of June and July and am leaving at the end of the month to go on the truck with WH for August. This sounds like it would be alot of fun to meet y'all. So sorry I will not be able to attend. (of course, on this rollercoaster, anything is possible !!!)

Take pictures !!

Ahhhhh - the drive from Tyler to Lufkin. Especially when the air is so thick in the summer you could cut it with a knife.

But the trees!! Love 'em!

I guess San Diego is too far to travel to "fellowship" (baptist term) with compadres from the home country.

DFW also.....but would be willing to catch a Southwest flight to a location where 'concrete' isn't the groundcover!

The only request I have is that it not be El Paso...no offense, but that is 12 hours from me by 90mph driving....and in the event that finances won't allow a SW flight, my trusty car will have to be my steed!

Is El Paso even in Texas? I heard once that when folks in EP talk about going to the beach, the are talking California not Texas.

Posted By: Aslan_the_Lion Re: TX MB-er's - 07/25/05 04:09 PM
Ahem, yes El Paso is in Texas. However, it is close to 1000 miles from Houston. Yes, it is hot, but with nonexistent humidity, it is nothing like Austin or Houston.

And yes, the California beach is only 750 miles from us. Believe it or not, El Paso is closer to the Pacific than Texarkana, and Texarkana is closer to the Atlantic than El Paso.

In all honesty, I wish I could come to a MB get together, regardless of location.

how about San Antonio...that is pretty centraly located as far as TEXAS goes! That way we can go to one of the GREAT mexican restaurants and have a real margarita!

hmmmm.....I can be the official tour guide and designated driver for those that indulge in the wormy drink and other adult beverages. However, if we were going to do something in the SA area, I would highly recommend a retreat in the Hill Country. Bandera is awesome. Even have Dude Ranches up there for those that would want to get their cowboy on.

Hey y'all.

I'm in Houston, but would go about anywhere to meet you y'all. That means DFW, Austin, SAT, etc. As long as there is cheap cheap cheap lodging!!!!

That being said, like WCNT, it would have to be after Labor day at the earliest for us, as I might be bringing my 3 girlies with me (10, 5 and 3 -- we've got too many school, work, etc activities coming up).

Might I suggest a fall or Winter rendezvous? The weather will be much cooler and more pleasant for everyone and we can have a large, outdoors get-together with food and fun and stories, etc.

Of course, some great Mexican food and Margaritas would hit the spot any day too!

Doesn't matter where we get together, as long as we do, sometime.

As for Bandera and getting your cowboy on, I could bring my horse, LOL! Some good friends trail ride at Bandera every year and swear by it! Heck, maybe I should camp!

SLH,
the Hill Country State Natural Area is a wonderful park. My deer lease shares a fenceline with it and I have to drive through the park to get to my place. Every weekend there are folks there with horse trailers camping out. The park is pristine. Just like it was in the 1800's. Bandera is only 10 miles away and there is drinking, dancing, and good food in town. You just have to watch out for the wild hogs in the park. They are somewhat of a problem.

Sorry to join in so late...I have been away from the boards for a bit....

I am in! My vote would be - in order of preference - the Guad river, Austin or SA...

Although fall would be cooler and less crowded, those with young 'uns may have trouble due to conflicts with schooling and such, so I would think we should do it before Labor Day.

Let's make sure we have more people attend ours, so we can keep those Left-coasters in their place! Everything MUST be bigger in TX!

ok, I can do SA or Austin. Just not in August when I go on vacation. My sis lives in Austin and I could stay in her guest room. She is wanting me to come for a visit anyway.
Posted By: StillLovingHim Re: TX MB-er's - 07/26/05 01:27 AM
WCNT, thanks for the link! One day I'd love to go camping there, and I see that they have a lot of areas to cook and fish and such. I prob won't do it for our MB get-together unless I can leave my kiddos at home. I can't see them "roughing it", and goodness knows H isn't into fishing or horseback riding and all. *sigh* I'm such a geek.

Personally I vote for later -- Fall or Winter -- rather than earlier (even with kids) but that's just cause we have so much on our plate here, now, and I can haul the kiddos anywhere if anyone else brings there kids. October offers a Colombus Day weekend, doesn't it?

H will probably stay here and work (as always). But I'll see what I can do.

If you do have it sooner, be sure and take LOTS of PICS!!!!

For something on the weekend, I'm in.
I'm right between San Antonio and Austin, in New Braunfels.
The only block out I would have would be Sept. 13-18th as I'll be at a convention.

My vote would be Austin. Not very far for those in SA, and A little closer for those in Houston/Dallas (I think)
Plus, that town has the best friggin night life I've ever seen. Short of Vegas anyway.

Ahhhhhhhhhh yes......the nightlife. Nothin' like a good night of watching Tx locals play live...and then a trip to Stubb's BBQ the next day!

Ummmmm....there might also be a few times where I don't remember what a good time I had. But I know I had one!

Austin works for me. No kids. No time restraints

I can't go more than a few days without having Freebirds. But I'm not advertising that as our dinner spot -- just my own personal heaven, lol!

There are still a lot of folk we haven't heard from -- Kimmy, Starz, cgar, GodBlessedTexas, etc.

As for a timeline, I personally vote the fall or later because it gives us lots of time to prepare TTD, save money, etc, but that's just me . I couldn't make it til then.

Should we have a poll or something? An idea. Timeline and city, once we narrow that down we can work on activities and FOOD!

I replied yesterday I think. You had asked for an email address for someone and I sent it to you. Let me know if you need me to resend it. Take care of yourself, girlie.

WHAT in heavens name is a FREEBIRDS

Only the best dang burritos in the world, y'all!

And oh, yes, they take kiddos. I've been bringing all of mine to the Freebird's in College Station and then to the ones in Houston for a total of 10+ years.

For those poor SAT souls who've had to do without, take heart -- they're building one in San Antonio, too, at I-10 and Huebner! Breaking ground in late 2005, they say.

Man, now I'm hungry.

SLH, I would love to get together with you in Houston sometime. I am class of '75. I haven't personally gone to a Freefird's. They came to College Station after I graduated. My son who graduated in 2000, talks about them.
I actually live off of West I-10 past beltway 8.
AFter school has started and things are back in that routine, it would be fun.
There used to be a group that met occasionally in Houston, I lived in DFW area then. Haven't seen them post about meeting inawhile. Plus I would rather do it in the evening or on weekend because I substitute teach.

AS for everyone else - didn't mean to step away from the subject at hand. Are ya'll getting together? Who, where, what, when,????
You must follow thru. I hear those Californians think they can outdo Texans.

Later,

So y'all -- are we gonna pick a day and place, or what?

Should we have a poll on weekends and locales that best work for everybody?

Texasgirl -

Small world....I live off of Dairy Ashford near Stratford HS....

I will meet in any of the aforementioned locales on most any weekend, unless I have to be a' travellin'

I will be out 8/15-8/22 or thereabouts...I have to go to NYC, Denver, then LA to finally retrieve all my stuff still in storage there.

TG, I would love to meet you once it cools off -- too dang hot to go anywhere, now, if you don't have to. Where do you sub?

TM, I thought you were in Galveston, from what you said about your bike. You must go there often. Seen the BUNS group I had mentioned? LOL

I live off of I-45 South.

We need to get together, guys!

I guess I'll create a poll -- please consider voting so we can narrow down when / where we should get together.

**I placed all available dates after Labor Day (per so many saying that they were unavailable until then) but we can modify that if y'all like. Please note that I DID NOT include Labor Day weekend, or the weekend before Halloween, but I DID include the weekend after T'giving, just in case we were all available (I know, unlikely, LOL).

I am tossing the weekend of [color:"red"] October 8 & 9 [/color] out there because that Monday after is Columbus Day (observed), and some of us or our kids will have it off from work or school. This would make things a bit easier for those who'd otherwise have to rush back to their homes on acct of either.

This is just to narrow things down. We may have to repoll again to pick a particular date.

Once we decide the when & where, we can work on what to do in that particular city at that time.

If I missed a city we had considered or a weekend, please post and let me know, so that I can add it. I'm slow today!

Please vote if you have the time!

SLH -

I don't go to Galveston that much, just on occasion...

-------------

We need to keep (notice I didn't say PUT) those left-coaster's in their place...isn't EVERYTHING bigger in TX?

Let's get this organized! All Texan MB'ers hands on deck!

Uh, y'all, Nov. & Dec. are DEER SEASON.

I voted, by the way.

Looks like October is good for alot of us. I sure hope so because that would work out for me. Austin also would be centrally located for most everyone. I hope. DFW would be excellent (for me) but I am not pushy. (duh)

Would this be a lunch-time thing, evening, night time, over night ? Makes no difference to me. The more MB ers the better, the more time the better. I am there.

Carnation - hoping for Oct.

mmmmm.........October 15th in Austin.....Horns vs. Colorado. I am so there!

I live in Katy, near the Katy Mills Mall. Funny I live 5 min from that mall and I never go there. I hate crowds.
Who else is in Harris Cty, Ft Bend cty and the others around Houston? ....within a 30 mi radius of 30 miles or so?
We will definitely have to get together, a mini-group of Texas M-B'ers.

Who else is in this area?

L.I.T., I know what you mean about DFW. I lived in Midlothian for 5 years. We were 30 min from either Downtonw Dallas or FT Worth.
I don't think there are many MB'ers there. There always seemed to be a good group in Houston.
Sure anytime you want to get together "Come on down".

hey ya all

I just saw this thread.

I would love it if we could all get together but I have to talk to H about what days we could do it and where. He's at work right now.

If you don't have it on the first weekend (H has Reserves) of Oct it should be fine.

Me personally likes San Antonio but any of those cities sound great.

Just say where and when and we will try to be there. But give us at least a month to tell H's boss.

Are you guys ready for my brood though?

I don't know if this is a badge of distinction or not...

Kinda like Houston being the billboard capitol of the country...or the #1 worst air quality.

We seem to be the best at all the worst things...

Although my M fell apart while I was in LA-LA land, so I can put the blame squarely on them thar left coasters!

LOL Wacky. I can't wait to see your brood. I'm bringing my 3, will you be bringing ALL of yours or just the younger ones?

PS -- On a good note, the Houston area has more horses per square mile than any other city area in the WORLD! That's not so bad for SOME of us, huh?

A GOOD distinction!

Hopefully all but the oldest. He's in Germany. But maybe just the younger ones if the older ones have to work. We will have to see how it works out.

Hey you all,

We only have 3 days vacation left. If you can't make it in San Antonio or Dallas/Ft Worth, we can't make it. My H says it only takes a day to get to either of those places.

Hopefully you will have another get-together some other time.

However can someone post pictures when you all do get together? Then it will be like I am there!
Posted By: starz Re: TX MB-er's Poll - 08/04/05 01:31 AM
Hey, where are we with this? Is there a decision? Oct. 7, 8, 9th? Austin?

And Houston area MBers - I am just an hour north. Yeah, not far from Katy either.

Also, did someone just reply from Bryan? Hello, neighbor. You sound depressed. I will e mail.

Must this thread be on the 3rd page? What does that say about Texas? Hmmmm?
