INFERTILE as a result of something you did? I would imagine that would be hard to make peace with.
[ June 14, 2002: Message edited by: Susan ]
[ June 14, 2002: Message edited by: Susan ]

Thanks. I look forward to hearing from you.
BTW, my husband is going to run by the video store and rent Enchanted April. I told him we were going to watch a "chick flick" tonight. It was either that or Devine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood.
PS...just a thought...at 103 years old, you may well expect to be infertile. <grin> just kidding
[ June 14, 2002: Message edited by: Susan ]

HA! .... but I was infertile before I was 103
I already saw the YaYa movie. I took my 13-year-old daughter (and her best friend) last weekend. It is enjoyable. Of course, I liked the book better ... but, that's to be expected. Let me know how you like Enchanted April. My H said he liked it, but he also said, "One viewing is enough for me." .... We have different tastes in movies. E.A. has an element of ~magic~ in it. The costumes are ... well, wonderful really!
Viva Italia!
Pep

So...you have a son AND a daughter...any more children?
Are you still going to email me later and tell me more of these details?
I loved the book (Ya Ya) and I almost hate to go see the movie.
[ June 14, 2002: Message edited by: Susan ]

My kids are siblings. Same birth mom. Different birth fathers. Adopted 8 months apart. 16 and 13 years old. Teenagers... gotta love 'em. Son got his drivers permit on Monday! He is actually doing quite well ... better than I expected. Driving is certainly a HUGE carrot/motivator for him. He is on the straight and narrow if he wants to drive. "No B's ... NO keys"... is our motto.
Pep
Yes I will email you, but I'm not in the mood to go all dark and deep with subject matter just yet. It is Friday ...and payday .... and beautiful weather here. I feel so happy and good.

How neat! I think that is wonderful. How old were your kids when you adopted them?
I understand... when you are ready to email me, I will appreciate it. I don't mean to make you go deep and dark, but there is much I have learned from your journey.
Thank you for taking your time with me.

I sent you a short howdy via aol. Ask away ....
Son was 3 years old when we got him. Daughter was 8 months old. Their birth parents were/are not nice citizens ... and, there are other siblings out there... adopted by other families. Adoption is not a path that everyone would choose, but, WE ARE grateful and blessed in many ways.
Pepper
[ June 14, 2002: Message edited by: Pepperband ]

**SUSAN**
Have you read Tuesdays with Morrie?
I'm thinking you probably have..... I read it last year, then I gave it to Mr. Pepper to read. He cried. He bought 6 copies to give as gifts to various people. He has never seen the movie with Jack Lemmon. I'm thinking of getting that DVD as a Father's Day gift. Have you seen that movie?
You are beautiful Susan!
From, Pepper (the old crone)

Believe it or not, I HAVE it, I have had it for a long time, but I have NOT read it. I have SO MANY books, you would not believe, but not enough time. I could open a library just in my house. I thought forever that I must have MORE books than my therapist!!! I will put Tuesday’s with Morrie next in line!
Have you read any Anne Rivers Siddons? I just finished Up Island. It does involve an affair situation, but I am impressed with the way that the female character handles the situation.
Enchanted April was wonderful. Beautiful scenery...and interesting development and changes in the personalities. I loved it!
Thank you for the compliment...now, I'm blushing, I'm not beautiful, but you are sweet.

~Sus~
Whenever someone mentions a book or an author, I go to Amazon.com (bookmarked on my 'puter) and look up the referenced author. The reviews of UP ISLAND are glowing! I'm gonna get it. Thanks.
My favorite part of Enchanted April is how Lottie's character functions as a catalyst ... provoking the growth of those around her. Lottie decides to stop keeping score in her marriage, and to simply love her H . <gulp> I had to look in the mirror and ask myself a few questions after I saw this movie.
Pepper

One thing that spoke to me...Rose invited her husband to come visit. Well, when he came, it was for different reasons...(to see the beautiful visitor). Rose was so happy to see him. She expressed her love and he was SWEPT away. Her response to him triggered HIS response to her. Didn't matter that he had not gotten the invitation. Forget the beautiful girl, go with the bird in the hand!!!
It makes you stop and think how once small change and action can set off a domino effect and cause other reactions. In this case they were all positive!

On another note, this morning when we woke, my husband mentioned the movie again. It is a long story, but our previous therapist and her husband are now "couple friends" of ours.
He said that she would love that movie and analyzing all of the characters and their personalities!

YES! That's a wonderful part. Rose was (by habit) so cut off from her own sensuality ... she had effectively isolated her H from herself in their marriage. The change of scenery .. to the beautiful and sensual gardens of the Italian villa is sort of a metaphor of the women awakening to their own sensuality.
P
[ June 15, 2002: Message edited by: Pepperband ]

Yes, but remember, it did not happen immediately. Remember when Lottie's husband had come, and they were swimming. And then it flashed to Rose....and she was just laying there...it looked like on rocks! And her face was so sad...and remember the lizard crawled across her and she did not even seem to know.
At that point in the movie my husband said (I believe she is depressed"...DUH.... (he was just kidding...it was so obvious)
I think I need to go on a HOLIDAY!
[ June 15, 2002: Message edited by: Susan ]

Shall we book an Italian villa????? I'd like to awaken to birds chirping, and the sweet scent of honeysuckle, and my housekeeper bringing me fresh pasteries and good coffee on the veranda where I look out upon the Mediterranean Sea...........................................*
P

Oh yes...let's! (But, I'd even settle for a condo on the beach somewhere in this country!) I love the sound of the waves crashing up on the beach at night while I sleep....and the smell of the salty air.
Now shall we advertise for two more women to go along with us so that we can lower the cost? I'll be the older, frumpy lady (I forgot her name. She wanted to invite her friend...so funny...She said her friend was too large for the room...and if she got in, she would never get out!)
You can be the young beautiful one.
I'm halfway through Tuesday's with Morrie already! Why oh why have I not read this sooner!
[ June 15, 2002: Message edited by: Susan ]

SUS
Years ago, Mr. Pepper and I bought a condo. It was a nice place in a really good neighborhood. Our next door neighbor, Ted, was a very tiny Jewish man, early 60's. Quite the character. We (the 3 of us) developed a really close friendship while we lived next door to each other. In fact, one of his 3 adult children showed signs of being jealous of this closeness. (that was weird, but we worked it through)
When the Lakers were playing in the NBA , we would always invite Ted over to watch at our place. Partly because he was such a hoot to be with ... but also because when he watched the games from his condo, he was SO LOUD shouting, " SCHMUCK! That was a foul! Are you BLIND? Make the G.D. freethrow, you IDIOT!" .... It was as if he were in our condo anyway ... so we made it a ritual ... he came over ... no invitation necessary.
We talked about his kids, his wife's death from cancer, his WWII experiences as a bombardier ... everything.
Ted became ill after awhile. He was finally diagnosed with ALS. (Now you know why I'm talking about Ted) We sold our condo and bought a house, we stayed close with Ted. Ted was forced to sell his place after a bit, there were steps he could not climb any longer. He came to live with us while he looked for a place to live that had ramps. Having Ted in my life during the worsening of his ALS symptoms ... just may be some of where I developed my so-called "wisdom".
Later, just before Ted died, we talked about how much we loved each other. I told Ted it was as if we had been friends our whole lives, and not just a few years.
Tuesdays With Morrie is such a healing book for Mr. Pepper and myself.
P
[ June 16, 2002: Message edited by: Pepperband ]
