I post this just to relate a significant event in my recovery and to share my belief that even when we are unsuccessful in salvaging our marriages, that we can still be winners otherwise - learning and growing from our experience. I'm ready to return to normalcy.
This Saturday, June 22, I will rediscover my passion for sailing in the Caribbean. Well, it was never really gone, just involuntarily suppressed. The last time I did this, my then wife was 6 months PG with my first son, now 13. When he asks me questions about our upcoming trip, I tease him, "What, you don't remember?" It has been my goal since that last trip in 1988 to share this passion with him again - with an outside view for him next time. I didn't plan it to take this long, but now it's almost upon us!!
To say a lot has happened in my life since 1988 would be a gross understatement.
So, this represents to me a victory of sorts. Finally, I get to return to my second favorite pastime. Life is almost back to as normal as it's gonna get. Things are a lot more like they are now than they used to be. (Could be a WS quote )
With us will be my brother and his 13 year old son, and one of my brother's fishing buddies. The father/son aspect will be something the four of us can cherish for many years. My brother and I conspired to do this while we could still witness the wonder in an impressionable child's eyes - when they experience something wonderful beyond their wildest expectations. Priceless.
Oh, the minor details. We'll be sailing the barrier reef off the coast of Belize in a 45' sailing catamaran. We'll fish and dive and fill ourselves with some of mother nature's most exquisite beauty. There's nothing out there but small cays, wind, water, and wildlife. No TVs, no phones, no video games. AND no women, so we can pee over the side and make bodily noises without fear of reprisal any time we want.
I'll offer a full report after we return on July 1.

Dave,
Even though I have never sailed, I almost wish I was guy so I could tag along.
Hope this trip builds all the wonderful memories you & your brother want to creat with your sons. I think this trip is so cool, for lack of another word. May your sons discover your love for sailing & may this be the 1st of many more trips.
remember that teenager are a lot like WS they have thier own way of looking at things.
Sounds like a great time...
And it sounds like you are finding some peace in your life...that's good. I especially compare that to your posts that I remember when I arrived here in March 2001.
Dave, you sound very--oh I don't know--would "balanced" be a good description?
WAT said:

quote:
we can still be winners otherwise - learning and growing from our experience

Good to see this is true...at least in your case.
Hope you have a good (no make that great) trip.
E

no women around? You can come back with the answer for us then:
"If a man says something in the forest (or on a boat) and there isn't a woman around to hear him, does that mean he is still wrong? "

I hope you have a wonderful trip. You'll build some wonderful new memories, and be refreshed, revived, and rejuvenated!
We look forward to hearing all about it!

Is that why you couldn't get any women to join U? Just kidding. I have 2 guys here I can send. They are well qualified in those 'guy' things but one of them might get sea sick. The other one would just have a great time.
I am happy for your adventure. You are right the time and experience you will share with your son and family will be priceless. You are the envy of many here. Please have fun, be adventurous and return safely.
NOTE: If we see any type of a female specie in any of your pixs you are gonna be in big trouble!!! LOL! Just kidding.
Watch out for the 'mermaids'! WAT,
Are you taking reservations?? I'd love to go with you. My thing is white water rafting though. Can't wait to be able to head to Colorado.
Faith,

quote:
"If a man says something in the forest (or on a boat) and there isn't a woman around to hear him, does that mean he is still wrong? "

It all depends on weather a woman finds out what he said later. If so, then obviously he's wrong. But, until she does, he's right. This is one of the funniest things I've ever seen, lol.

I have been so excited for you regarding this trip ever since you first mentioned it... It's almost unbelievable that the months have gone by and here it is!!!
How fun for you! A real pick-me-up and right at a time when your son can really get into it and just think of all the good memories you will be creating for him. Too cool!

We're baaaaaaaaack! Late last night (July 1).

It was terrific, as planned. I'll give a more complete update later if there's interest.

I haven't caught up with all ya'll yet. ("all ya'll" is plural of "ya'll").
