QUESTION!!!!
The dept store ladies will be able to help me in the makeup dept...and the hair area is covered...but what about facial hair? I mean...I have a feeling one of the things that would help my face would be to pluck some eyebrows. I looked today at the home ripping kits...but I just have no idea what shape to go for or how to start that? Any tips there? I heard from a friend that there's a lady that does it in a town nearby...should I just make an appt with her?

Hey Hope,
Make an apointment. Do not do it yourself!!! My wife got carried away one time and just about plucked the whole eyebrow off!!!
It takes some learnin' to do this. Go to the apointment once and watch carefully.

Good idea on the eyebrows. I always do my own, but if you are unsure a professional job one time will give you what you need and you can do the maintenance.
I think an important point to remember with all of these tips is that if you like the results, regular upkeep is essential. Take the time on a daily basis to look at yourself and see what needs a little attention. Once you get these things into your regular routine they will be quicker and not seem like a hassle. You deserve to spend time on yourself!

Hope,
Alot of the hair salons also do eyebrows, you may want to check where you are going or call around other salons. If this is a first, don't do it yourself!!
It is amazing how a good brow shaping can affect your face. About 7 years ago, I was at a JCPenneys (a coworkers' friend worked there), and they had a lady that did my brows, so you may want to check there. They will most likely apply a wax strip and that pluck any strays. Take a couple of Tums antacid with you. I was surprised when she gave me a couple of Tums after that but she said that something in the Tums cut down the redness and keeping it from getting inflamed. Don't know if that was true or not, but I didn't have any problems.
Anyway, I only got my brows "professionally" done that one time. I now just keep that shape up but plucking a few strays every now and then. I look back on pictures and it is amazing how it changed the look of my face, it looks alot slimmer now even though I'm about 10lbs heavier!!
Good luck!!
Oh yea, I forgot to tell you, make sure you get that manicure and if you can splurge, the pedicure. Even if you have short nails like me (can't keep them very long!!), they will do such a good job getting rid of those cuticles and giving it a good shaping. I have found that even the little stores in Walmart that do it for $12 do an excellent job!!

Avoid any type of refined white bread, white rice, crackers, sugar, etc. Don't spend any money on "Low Fat" Products such as Slim Fast, it is all sugar!!!!

That *IS* Atkins! And you are right, when you cut out the junk carbs and starchy fruits and vegetables, you will first dump all your retained water [glucose holds 3X its weight in water]and then start into your stored body fat. Folks often lose as much as 12 pounds in 2 weeks just cutting out the junk food and sticking to whole natural foods. I would avoid whole grains for awhile because they are very fattening.
hope, too bad we don't all live close together. We could get together and make you over! With nikko at the lead, of course!
nikko, I am going to make the changes you suggested. Thanks so much for the great ideas. I just recently lightened my hair FROM light brown with auburn to light brown with ashe blonde and I don't think it looks nearly as good as the auburn. I am switching back when I can back to the colorist.

Wellllll....seee....here's the deal. Can you say "no impulse control"??? I hacked in to the eyebrows. I went to www.eyebrowz.com and got some ideas. Just went ahead and went for it. It's not bad really! But, I agree...I should have waited. I think a little more lift towards the outside of the eye would have looked better (what I was ACTUALLY going for, but didn't quite manage). So...it will be fine for our night out...I'll let it grow out...and I'll save that little adventure for next time! I just did a home pedicure. Ooooh man it feels good. I think I will look in to getting a manicure when I go to the city to check out the makeup counter. You know...it kinda hurts being a girl. Pluck YEOW pluck YEOW!!!

Hi Hope, I just read today in a magazine, either Readers Digest or Glamour take Vitamin E before exercising, supposed to help with the sore muscles. I guess you are supposed to take it daily. You won't feel it working right away. never tried it myself.
Good luck and have fun

http://www.paulaschoice.com/Read her books, then buy her makup! It is wonderful. She rates all brands of makeup so you don't have to buy hers. She tells whether the products live up to their claims based on scientific data.

It is kinda unfortunate that girls can do all these things to make themselves look more attractive. All guys can do is cut their hair. Oh well, it is much simpler of a life.

I have really enjoyed this thread
All the bases seemed to be covered. IMO what men seem to find the most attractive is us feeling confident about ourselves.I by no means am any sex kitten here...just a rapidly approaching middle aged kinda chubby gotmoregreyhairthanIcaretothinkabout mom type...but when I feel good about me...there isn't any other woman he'd rather be with. Get yourself all dolled up and go strut your stuff girl...lol Give him those direct looks, lick those lips at the right moment, hang on his every word...gauranteed a night to remember

MOISTURIZE!
Here's my favorite tip -- good ol Johnson's baby oil!
If you're bathing, pour a lil in the tub before you get out. When you get out and towel off, your skin will feel soooooo soft! (And it leaves the right amount on your skin)
If showering, pour a lil on your hands and rub all over, letting the water run. Again, towel dry, and you will feel great!
Nothing sexier than soft smooth skin!!!

Melody, just wanted to expand upon this:
The huge difference between the Atkins diet and my suggestion is that carbs are permitted. With the Atkins diet, the first 2 weeks you are very carb restricted, one slice of bread is more than the allowance for one day!
My suggestion more closely follows the Low Glycemix Index of foods, meaning that some foods have a high glycemic index (ex, white bread) and some have a lower glycemic index (green veggies). I have blood sugar problems (diabetes runs in my family, both sides) that I have to regulate with diet.

You must be thinking of some other diet, because Atkins not only permits carbs, but demands them. Even in the initial phase [2 week induction phase] where carbs are the lowest, you must have 2 small salads and 2-3 cups of low glycemic veggies, more veggies than the average person has.
Atkins bans bread on EVERY phase, though, because it is not good for you. I know of NO low carb diet that completely eliminates carbs - I dont think there is one.
I USED to have hypoglycemia but it was CURED by this diet 3.5 years ago.

dear hope-i wanted to tell you i didnt get your pictur-my computer has problems with pics people send me. i can see the ones on mb thread fine. if anyone wants put your pics there and i will look. any and all questions are welcome. im glad to hear you still have brows! i do the waxing thing but i am in the business. i pluck some strays but much prefer the waxing. i also take care of bikini in that way. shave a few areas but mostly wax down there. you might want to surprise him that way-we regularly do some very creative waxings-my personal favorite is waxing it into a heart shape! shave everything underneath, and wax top(front) into a heart. shocks the he// out of them!!

That's such a cute idea!
I did "nads" down there once last year. I vowed the next time anyone came anywhere near that area with anything wax or tape like....someone was going down with me! It hurt like HE11 and I broke out worse than anything.
I'm pretty happy with the eyebrows! I can see, however, how easy it would be to wind up with NONE. I kept plucking away over here...then I'd need to even it up over here...oops, a little too much, better go back over here... I finally just looked and said....CLOSE ENOUGH!

Ok Nikko, please take a look at my pic then. I had dark hair...started graying...so, then I started highlighting. I actually think the darker was better.
I also have hazel eyes...warm hazel...and try to use eye shadows to make them look greener.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

What colors are you using? My current favorite is a brownish wine but nikko suggested gray and green, which I can't wait to try. [ July 19, 2002, 07:11 PM: Message edited by: MelodyLane ]

dear susan-i agree. i think its too light for your skin and eyes. as a colorist i look at the eyes and skin cause they are not gonna change. you need to warm up your color. in the picture you look like you have some pink to you skin but i cant tell if its just the picture. get back to me on that.
