Just a note: T-zero is gone, Qfwfq is in!
Qfwfq is my username over on iloveulove.com. I figure I might as well keep it simple and use the same name on both forums.

It's that easy? I mean, you can just type in another one? Just like that? Isn't there a law or something?
Maybe I could try something else.
How about still stewing? No, no, how about swill seeking?
Na, I better think some more.
SS PS, probably good that you made the change, you were T-zero for to long. [ January 29, 2003, 07:16 PM: Message edited by: still seeking ]

ACtually, it's interesting. It's easy to change your display name, which is what I did. But I haven't changed my login name. So, I still login as T-zero. A bit of security, I suppose.

""Cosmicomics" by Italo Calvino Synopsis by Kelly Evans Each chapter of Cosmicomics begins with a blurb which sounds like the dry, tasteless extract of a physics, astronomy or geology textbook, describing how solar systems formed from nebula, the universe started from a point smaller than an atom, the orbit of the moon changed long ago, dinosaurs became extinct, space is curved, expands, etc. On each of these topics, our narrator, Qfwfq, immediately launches. His idiosyncratic voice, omniscient, blithering, self-centered, unerring, ridiculous, is recognizable, exactly consistent, no matter if he is talking about his life as a mollusk, a dinosaur, a moon-being before color, or life before there was form, when the whole family lived on a nebula, or in the point before space.
Most of Qfwfq's friends and relatives have unpronounceable names. Xlthlx, Rwzfs, Mrs. Vhd Vhd, the beloved Mrs. Ph (i) Nk0 (actually a special typeset must have been developed, now that I think about it, since my keyboard doesn't have all the options necessary to even write these names), Z'zu, De XuaeauX, etc. However, they, and he, have distinctly human foibles (neuroses, competitiveness, love triangles, gambling, boredom, incomprehension of their bodies and environment), although in most cases they are not human. And while Qfwfq tells tales of many different lives, seemingly beginningless, which seem to imply transmigration and transformation, all mention of death and birth is conspicuously absent."

THere's more:
"Qfwfq seems to have always been, although he doesn't waste time speculating on this fact. It's simply true that whatever is mentioned he remembers, or can look up in his diary. For instance in one case, he's looking through his telescope, as he does nightly, and sees a sign hanging off a galaxy 100,000,000 light years away, "I saw you." He hastens to check his diary and finds out he had been doing something he'd wanted to hide and hoped was forgotten on exactly that day, two hundred million years ago. Throughout the chapter, he worries about what people on galaxies all over the universe think of him, and keeps scanning for signs, and speculating what each sign means about others' judgements of himself, and wondering how to respond. "What of it?" Or, "Did you see it all, or just a little bit?"

Actually, that was an embarrasing day! I remember it well. I've felt like Qfwfq most of my life since I read the book for the first time in the late 60's. Little did I know that my life in the past several years would be so similar to ol' Qfwfq's!
All in good fun. The world is in all too short supply of that $h!+

I wish PG would post his story here! I do know that he's on his second M and that his first ended badly, or something like that. Many of his lyrics are about relationships.
I really enjoy the song "I grieve" from the film "City of Angels", but haven't used it in my sig line because, at least, my W has not left me. It brings me to tears every time I listen to it, though.

Sounds like Qfwfq is a giver?
Is there happiness in QF's life?
Used to like sci-fi in my younger days but can't keep up with all the new stuff and surely can't pronounce the names!!! LOL!

"Sounds like Qfwfq is a giver?
Is there happiness in QF's life?"
The original Qfwfq was a giver. He was often the BS, too. I don't think he ever was a WS. Of course, one has to wonder if a mollusk can have truly rewarding relationships with another mollusk!
As to this Q's life? Yes, there is happiness. I'm learning to find it and cultivate it when I do. It's hard, particularly right now. We're having a devil of a time with too many workers on the house at the same time, and they're getting careless and destroying things. We may have to stop the work for a while. This going on makes it very difficult to find any opportunity to talk about our M, but I do try when I can. Baby steps. My D works with my W now, so the opportunities for contact without "supervision" are even less than before. I'm choosing to work on my happiness, though, rather than dwell on the secrecy - it's too easy for me to imagine all kinds of things that in all practicality can't be going on. Boundaries are still quite intact, though.
I have a friend here at work that is having M problems. 27+ year M, like ours. He and his W have been butting heads increasingly for over 15 years, and he's thinking about DV now. No A on either's part. But it's still absolutely mind-boggling just how parallel his sitch is to mine (and to everybody else's on this forum). And so it's more apparent to me that what they say is true. M, particularly long-term Ms, need maintenance to prevent this kind of suspicion or distrust building slowly and undermining what was once a very loving relationship. In our cases, the A REALLY isn't the problem, but it sure is one helluva symptom. Elephants have a lot of inertia, but it's doesn't mean that they shouldn't be prodded into motion. ...right over a cliff!

Q-
Wasn't that a villian in a James Bond flick? No, He's the guy on Start trek!
I believe that PG's "US" album was based on the demise of his marriage and his battle with the depression that raged in him during this time. In a way, he DID chronicle his story for "US"!
"This old familiar craving, I've been here before, this way of behaving.....Don't know who the HELL I'm saving anymore. Let it pass, Let it go, Let it leave, from this secret place I grieve, this time I believe......that I let go.
and then ...
Though it takes all the strength in me, and all the world can see, I'm loosing such a central part of me, I can't let go of it. You know I mean it, You know I mean it, I recognize how much I've lost but I CANNOT face the cost - 'cause I love to be loved.....
To this day I am VERY affected by this particular set of lyrics and the music that accompanies it. Cheater? Cheated? Sexually Adicted? It doesn't matter, we all hurt the same for different reasons.
Sorry, I absolutely LOVE PG! [ January 30, 2003, 10:34 AM: Message edited by: kily ]

Yep, me too. I have to keep changing my sig line because there are so many relevant verses in his songs, and my sig line would dwarf even Mortarman's if I were to use them all!
I really liked the Q in Star Trek. A fallible omniscient being. What a joke! Was a lot of fun over the life of the series. The first episode with him was stupid, though. Glad they improved afterward.
I haven't watched much James Bond since Sean Connery quit the role. Actually, I learned recently that Patrick McGoohan was offered the role before Sean Connery, based on his popularity as Secret Agent (and a preceding show that I never saw) during the 60's, but he turned it down. I learned this from my "Prisoner" DVD set that I got for Xmas.
"I am number 2." "Who is number 1?" "You are number 6." "I am not a number, I am a free man!!" "Bwa hahahahahahahahaha!!!!"

Q,
"I wish PG would post his story here! I do know that he's on his second M and that his first ended badly, or something like that. Many of his lyrics are about relationships"
Yes, his 20 year marriage ended and it might have been because he left his wife for Roasanna Arquette if I remember correctly. Also when he brought out US (one of my most favorite of his music) It was about therapy as the he once stated that the British frowned on group therapy he got involved in it and US was the result. He was also at that time greiving for Arquette, but I think if I am not mistaken his wife of 20 years and he are good friends, I don't remember. So you can tell I really really enjoy Gabriels music and what he brings to the music indistry and WOMAD, he is quite amazing really. But I can't keep waiting 10 years years for every new album!!!!
