WAT, I have no evidence that there was a license. It's likely there was not -- I don't think anyone is that stupid (though I'm open for surprises). My lawyer says they can make themselves Queen of the May if they want to -- as long as they don't try to make it legal. There's nothing illegal about wearing a white dress & veil, making fraudulent promises -- kids playing pretend do it all the time. There's nothing legally binding about a wedding cake. It's just kind of strange, because if they had waited they could have had a real wedding. It's like they are going out of their way to foredoom their relationship.
In Plan B/D, I didn't pick around to find out what my friends meant by "weird" and "bizarre." One said everyone was asking after me -- which would make kind of an odd wedding indeed. Stepsons picked up a flavor of false gaity, which they mentioned to their mother (and they aren't all that emotionally sensitive to these things, either). That's not enough to make an event "bizarre," which is a word emphasized very strongly by a very low-key friend, usually pretty reliable.
I have overheard people referring to going to the reception, as if it were referring to any old outdoor summertime reception, unconnected with a wedding. That kind of falls oddly on my ear -- the emotional disconnect with the reason for the strange event. But again, I've gave up picking for info months ago.

OK, I'm signed on to the "weird" label!
Yep, very expensive "dress up."
I guess this all means it can't be bigamy either, right?
How 'bout we hop on a plane to Athens and say we're Olympic swimmers? Should work, huh? But I'm not wearing one of those speedos.

I agree, WAT. But there's something even more that was bizarre. I'll write when I know.

WAT, regarding speedos, I believe the original participants were nude...

Just got a congratulatory card in the mail to the new couple -- in my post box. Yech! Dumped it back in the post with a "not at this address." What a downer, eh!?

Oh, I dunno, Orchid. I guess there isn't too much to do. But it's so nice to hear people reassure you that you haven't gone crazy. It's so nice NOT to be told you ought to be over this by now, and it's none of your business what they do anymore. I'm so tired of being told my friends have a right to do what they feel best -- while denying me the right to decide, accordingly, who my real friends are.
I'm tired of self-interest and moral laziness masquerading as sweet reasonableness, and the desire to let bygones be bygones. All the while going through what is becoming an increasingly nasty divorce. [ August 09, 2004, 06:39 PM: Message edited by: A.M.Martin ]

Ok, cleaned out 4 tubs, packed 1 box..... not doing soo well... LOL!!!
Remember U choose who your friends not visa versa. These people need to live with the choices they make. If they want to be used to enable an A, that is their choice. Your choice is to keep them as friends as they are or get better ones.
Maybe it is time to widen out and find friends with better values. People can change, you know. Not everything but they can.

Bump.
So, what happened? Is it bigamy, or is it a farce?

This is simply AMAZING!!!
What will they think of next!
Maybe they are planning to start a circus.
Maybe they already started a circus.
Were there elephants?
How about acrobats?
Simply AMAZIN'!!

Good to hear from you, AD. No acrobats to my knowledge, though the biggest elephant in the circus was the friend who sang at my wedding, who also sang at this one. I should say former friend. She left me a phone message saying that she loves me and misses me, and that she didn't do it for them. Then who DID she do it for, for pity's sake? I know: She did it for her own vanity, which looms larger than any of the principles. An elephant would look small, by comparison.
I'm not going to argue with her. I'll get the speech about "moving on." I am moving on -- and looking for better friends than this spineless wonder, who's been a friend for 20 years. There's lots of spineless suck-ups I'm dropping. Which makes for a kind of lonely existence.
As my other friend said, the event was "bizarre" -- for reasons other than the obvious. Still don't know what happened.
She is now using his last name.
Is it bigamy or farce? My lawyer says "Who cares?" He seems only to be interested in getting a good deal for me, and the more webs of deceit they weave, he says, the better. He wants to fan the flames of the folly.
Though they lingered for days afterward they finally left town for a fraudulent honeymoon. Guess where?
Think Bonnie. Think Charlie. Couldn't have it better if I tried.

AMM:
"I guess it doesn't matter where you sing, as long as champagne is poured."
It's true, of course. But Ouzo will not only make you sing, it'll make you DANCE!
