Ok, my vote is for Charleston, SC.... of course...that's where I'm from and am trying to go back there. It's a nice town with great hospitality. I love it!!!! They have nice weather.
I've lived all over the place and Charleston will always have my heart.

The Pacific Northwest also has super duper nice people. And this is where Starbuck's all started. We LOVE our expresso. <addicts> lol
From your home you can have a view of the Puget Sound and Mt. Rainier on either side of your home.
During the non-Winter months you can canoe, cycle, sail, ride horses, rock climb, hike and on and on. And during the Winter months you can ski yourself silly. Or just huddle in all cozy and watch movies with the family.
We also have the Jimi Hendrix Museum here so we RAWK, and much much more. I'll post more later.

(I always "pick on" my brother--moved to Longview some years ago...moved again just in the past few months, closer to the "big lake"...forgot the name of the town...he loves it there! Closest thing he compares to LI with...except for all of the dang rain!)

OOOOHHHHH! Fayettville, AR is GORGEOUS! I love Arkansas! They even sometimes get that fuzzy white stuff that comes out of the sky....um....what's that called? Oh yeah! Snow. They get snow sometimes. Arkansas is just a wonderful place....the only downside: dry counties...lmao!
SOOOOOOOEEEEEEE HOGS!
- Kimmy, who hasn't seen the fuzzy white stuff since '89

Thanks, SD! (I was confusing the blue "Coastal Evacuation Route" with Ike's brown signs!

LINY
If you live near "hurricane alley", it's better you know the Coastal Evac signs, anyway.

My vote is for......
.... not Louisiana.
We have mosquitos and hurricanes, bad roads and schools and corrupt politics. Outside of LSU, every sports team is bad.
New Orleans is fun..... for a weekend.
Housing is cheap. Of course, that's because unemployment is high, and salaries are low. Wait till the petrochemical industry goes belly-up.....
We have two very distinct seasons, Summer and Summer Lite....where the humidity's lower! Ex: Today, the high temp is going to be 88, with a heat index in the low 90's. A freakin' heat index in October! I have worn shorts for Thanksgiving and Christmas many, many times.
Out of my travels, I recommend:
Panhandle of Florida. Hurricanes be damned!
Colorado. Mmmmm, perty. You get green and mountains.
Albuquerque, NM. This has been a recent favorite after my visit in May. It's a little dry, but other than that, pretty neat!

svb1 i'm actually on the Naperville-Aurora border but still have the Naperville addy.
Aurora can be okay depending on where in Aurora. There are some bad areas there and being that my H was from Naperville I was taught to stay away from Aurora but I'm sure that's mostly yuppie silliness.

Ok, I have to put in my 2 cents....I have lived all over the US...currently living in Texas in small town America, Mt. Pleasant. Piney woods of East Texas. Love being near family. But lived most of my married life in NM. Albuquerque is really pretty...mountains and the Rio Grande. SW NM is also beautiful...lots of wide open spaces. White Sands...all that sand and not a drop of water! Tacoma, WA is very green. Loved our time there, just too much rain. I would have to have one of those AD lights to live there again! Denver, CO is a beautiful city..but way too much snow. Except for the humidity, heat and bugs....Texas has it all. Desert, rolling hills, ocean, woods.....people are friendly, family is everyting and you dont have to hide the fact you are a christian. Mostly it is about contentment in whatever "state" you live in.

East Texas has a low cost of living, spontaneous tree growth, great weather, great BBQ and Mexican, and close to Louisiana gambling!
We even have guys named Bubba out here! When you move in, the welcome wagon will come over to find out what faith you are so they can send your preacher over. That is the first order of business out this way!
There are a few nice houses for sale in my neighborhood that I could scope out for ya. They range around $150-200 and average 2000 sq ft.

Hey weaver & kyellow4,
I am from lower Michigan. Now I know what the guys do when they go snowmobiling in the UP. I do know that my H's suspected OW's husband had him a sweetie up there.
Even with all the pain she caused me though, I could never tell her that. She has been a widow for 1 1/2 years now.
All the boys sure have a good time when they go up there every winter. WOnder if my H had him a sweetie there too??? Some men are so disgusting....they joke about the toothless women with the flat heads...really bad joke.
My Dad used to live in Escanaba. He loved it. He is a sportsman. I have been across the bridge once in my life when I was 17 and it was dark. Maybe I'll take a trip there sometime.

Waking up,

With snow on the ground through most of the summer, it is a great place to have a snowball fight in shorts. It is also one of the most unique places in the world.
The Oregon Coast is one of the most beauiful places on the Pacific. There have been times when we have been the only ones on the beach. It can be very peaceful and a great place to be alone. It is our family's favorite places.
And don't forget the Super Blue Green Algae that grows in Klamath Lake!
