Glad you're back but leave the funny to brown!!

And stop with the potential "dramatic exit lines"...
We've had too much of that in the past week!

Today's song (one of my favs to sing to the babies):
Jackie left on a cold, dark night Telling me he'd be home Sailed the seas for a hundred years Leaving me all alone And I've been dead for twenty years I've been washing the sand With my ghostly tears Searching the shores for my Jackie-oh
I remember the day the young man came He said, "your Jackie's gone We got lost in the rain" And I ran to the beach And laid me down
"You're all wrong", I said And they stared at the sand "That man knows that sea Like the back of his hand He'll be back some time laughing at you"
And I've been waiting all this time For my man to come Take his hand in mine And lead me away To unseen shores
I've been washing the sand With my salty tears Searching the shore For these long years And I'll walk the seas forever more Till I find my Jackie oh Till I find my Jackie oh Till I find my Jackie oh Jackie oh Jackie oh Jackie oh
BTW: The white pelicans are back for the winter. They are so beautiful.

My little girl would have nightmares if I sang her that song NG
You southerners sure are a morbid lot, aren't ya?
Hey KY, don't encourage them with the middle finger thing, they'll find a way to post that you know, (especially potty mouth Linny!)
Hey WO, how goes it?

Actually, Weaver, it's sang more Irish Ballad style....like this:
Farewell to Tarwathie Adieu Mormond Hill And the dear land of Crimmond I bid you farewell I'm bound off for Greenland And ready to sail In hopes to find riches In hunting the whale
Farewell to my comrades For a while we must part And likewise the dear lass Who first won my heart The cold coast of Greenland My love will not chill And the longer my absence More loving she'll feel
Our ship is well rigged And she's ready to sail The crew they are anxious To follow the whale Where the icebergs do float And the stormy winds blow Where the land and the ocean Is covered with snow
The cold coast of Greenland Is barren and bare No see time nor harvest Is ever known there And the birds here sing sweetly In mountain and dale But there's no bird in Greenland To sing to the whale
There is no habitation For a man to live there And the king of that country Is the fierce Greenland bear And there'll be no temptation To tarry long there With our ship under full We will homeward repair
Farewell to Tarwathie Adieu Mormond Hill And the dear land of Crimmond I bid you farewell I'm bound off for Greenland And ready to sail In hopes to find riches In hunting the whale
Both are very lilting and sweetly sung. I find the kids don't really hear the words, they just feel the love...kwim?

This is the last lullaby song I'll share with you all tonight, but I'm planning on singing all three to the babies tonight because it makes ME feel good to croon them to them:
Suzanne takes you down to her place near the river You can hear the boats go by You can spend the night beside her And you know that she's half crazy But that's why you want to be there And she feeds you tea and oranges That come all the way from China And just when you mean to tell her That you have no love to give her Then she gets you on her wavelength And she lets the river answer That you've always been her lover And you want to travel with her And you want to travel blind And you know that she will trust you For you've touched her perfect body with your mind.
And Jesus was a sailor When he walked upon the water And he spent a long time watching From his lonely wooden tower And when he knew for certain Only drowning men could see him He said "All men will be sailors then Until the sea shall free them" But he himself was broken Long before the sky would open Forsaken, almost human He sank beneath your wisdom like a stone And you want to travel with him And you want to travel blind And you think maybe you'll trust him For he's touched your perfect body with his mind.
Now Suzanne takes your hand And she leads you to the river She is wearing rags and feathers From Salvation Army counters And the sun pours down like honey On our lady of the harbour And she shows you where to look Among the garbage and the flowers There are heroes in the seaweed There are children in the morning They are leaning out for love And they will lean that way forever While Suzanne holds the mirror to your soul And you want to travel with her And you want to travel blind And you know that you can trust her For she's touched your perfect body with her mind.
Nighty night.

Truthfully, I'm a smartass from a long line of smartasses.
Honestly, tho...I'm descended from 3 brothers who came over from Scotland. All 3 started across the US with Cali in sight. 1 made it...the other two got hooked on 'shine in the Appalachains - there used to be stories of their horse and wagon turning up a few days after a binge drinkin', and the townsfolk would just send someone out lookin' for em (learned that one from a family reunion story).
Read any of the FoxFire books (very informative and good reads) - they explain mountian folk, and the people in there could be my next o'kin for all I know.
As for the songs - the first is from Sinead O'Conner, the second is an old Judy Collins song, and the third is Leonard Cohan (but has been sung by Judy Collins). My mom and dad had very diverse musical interests (as is apparent when I visit and the Gregorian chants are playing -those little guys eyes are rolling because the chants are pretty for about 10-15 min, then you just want to stick a pencil in your eye to make them stop ). My personal favs will always be the Irish Ballads (Johnny Cash notwithstanding and nowhere in the same genre, GC - NO ONE will ever take his place in my heart ) I'm one of the few here (after a green beer or 3) who can get up and sing all of Danny Boy....not that's it a hard song to remember....but you kwim? It's just....um....touched me....like my soul knows it...you ken?

KY - No haven't been able to see the northern lights. It's been really freaky up here though, the days have been dark as night and the nights have been black as death. It's really starting to freak me out.
And yes they teach math up here but they do it with beer can sizes and keg conversions. I don't drink beer so I guess I missed out.
And don't just pick on us, Wisconsin is way worse if you know what I mean.
Did you see Escanaba in de Moonlight, KY. The bar scene in that movie about knocked me out of my chair, it is soooo right on about up here. Disgusting! I can't wait until Paige graduates, we're out of here then, and she ditto's that!
NG -
I am going to check out those books, I love mountain lore and stories!
There was a movie out a couple of years ago, where this woman doctor goes to the mountains researching mountain music. I wish I could remember the name, the mountain music, just singing mostly was incredible. I gave it to a friend of mine and she told me she watched it seven times! I'll try to remember the name and tell you, I know you would love it.

Morning All, as I predicted, I've missed pages of very important information just by being on a different time zone.
Note for Niosgirl. If you stick a pencil in your eye, it won't make the music go away. You will be blind but you will still be able to hear it. I will now go and try it just to make sure.
