Kilz - that's what I was thinking of....why'd I write RID??? Oh yeah. Bugwuggies (shudder). Again we had them, btw. That poor, poor baby. I put my Aussie 3 min. miracle conditioner on her hair....not only is the RID shampoo poison, it makes it impossible for you to comb her hair (she just cries...then I just cry...then we're both a mess and hugging each other - her telling me, "I's loves you mommy," and me saying "I'm so sorry baby, I love you so much, I'm so sorry." - on the Idiotville thread I CAN say I HATE her mom, right....if it's only because of the bugs...I HATE HER AND WHAT SHE REFUSES TO DO FOR my poor, sweet little girl. There. Done.)

quote:
Your carne asade over there sounds like our fajitas

It is, Starz. Till I actually married into a Hispanic family, I thought fajitas were those sizzling things you get at a Tex Mex place.....but my mill informed me that REAL fajitas are carne asada and guisada with peppers and onions cooked in.

Songbird - I've two ways to make guisada, my mil's recipe, which is the true way to make it, and the crock pot variety (but don't tell my mil, because she'd roll over in her grave).

To make mil's version

Take about 2-3 lbs beef tips (make sure they're cut into bite sized chunks) and boil in enough water to cover them. Didja see my comment about the garlic/vampires - live with it as a rule of life. Seriously. Add chili powder - can't tell you how much but I'd reckon it's tablespoons full vs. teaspoons. About 5-6 good shakes of cumin. Again, I use bullion or beef stock instead of water - makes everything richer, and you never have to add salt - if you do have to add salt, you might as well mainline the stuff cause you're addicted. Turn it down to a simmer and cook it till the water is just about all cooked away. Add 4-5 tbsp. flour - enough to coat the meat, then slowly add water till you got a good gravy.

If you want this to be "real fajitas" add sliced bell peppers (I use red AND green b/c there is a dif. in sweetness) and a whole sliced onion. Spoon it on a plate - proper eating of this mess isn't really in a taco....you break a piece of flour tortilla and use it as your spoon/scoop to eat it with your fingers and to sop up the gravy.

The cheating variety uses everything above only throw the mess in your crock pot (except the flour and veggies). Cook on the low setting till about an inch or two evaporates. Add the veggies. Make a cornstarch thickener (you know, like you're making gravy or stew) and throw it in till it becomes as thick as you like.

I'm a cheater, cheater, pumpkin eater, too....I sometimes throw a can of diced 'maters in the mess because I LOVE TOMATOES (why doanch marry it???)...but TRUE gui-as asada doesn't have maters.

Oh, Kimmy, I'm laughing so hard. I thought only my family said "maters"!

Thank you so much for the recipe! I'll try it tonight.

To the rest here in Idiotville, thanks for all the laughs throughout the day.

....is "stretch" a hint?

Silly Putty?

Solid or liquid? Oh, wait would a liquid fall under "squishy?....but no, not really.

Oh....and silly putty falls into neither of those categories incase someone attempts to call me on that....it is viscous....totally different horse.

Hey! Other girls had posters of Van Halen...I had a pic of Bill Nye the Science Guy... But don't tell.

KiWiJ: I forwarded your post to Onlywords email address. She started one up to post to RAP and BV, but neither has posted in awhile. I haven't heard from NCW lately either. I know he's busy, but I hope and pray things are working out for them. (BV too.)

I'd like if Onlywords hung out in Idiotville too, but she gets too curious about other threads, gets drawn in and then gets upset. So it's just easier for her not to read here. She's been in such a good mood lately (well at least the last week and a half) and she has been a real joy to be around. I think it's even helped her cooking. She's a good cook (when she wants to be)!
