When we first moved here it was always -40 in january (even an occassional -50) but the last several years have not been as brutal, maybe -30, or -20 but not so many 40 belows...it was a balmy -16 this morn...

Oh, now that you're talking mixed drinks and not beer, I can add a little from very previous experience

My drink of choice was a SLOE SCREW That always leads to interesting comments.

I can't even imagine, MAL. And you say people live there? Can't be any nards left. I'll bet everyone already froze them off. You know that's why Santa has no kids, right? Cause it's so cold up north....

(still shaking my head)

Just can't imagine........

The old duffers walk funny but I thought it was cuz they rode too many horses!! Now I know the truth! Maybe it was riding horses while it is -40 ??? That would certainly do it!

Okay. I'm convinced. You people who live in the north are clinically insane. That can be the only answer as to why the heck someone would live in a place that is "colder'n a witch's tit in a brass brassiere". Quoting Daddy.

In Texas, horses are pets and livestock. In Wyoming, they're nard warmers in the winter.

If you liked Farscape, you should check out Firefly. The only 14 episodes they made are out on DVD now. They're making a movie, but the showing got postponed until next Sept.

Did you read the Earthsea books, 2long? I read them in jr. high (when dinosaurs roamed the earth) and loved them. I can't wait till next week. Chica that plays Lana in Smallville will be in it...oh, and Isabella Rossalini (sp?)...Danny Glover...lots of names. Hopefully it'll be better than the film based on the Riverworld books.........(fingers crossed)

Oh, and 2long, a dark friend of mine gets leaks on the Star Wars films. Would you like me to forward them to you...or are you into SW? I get all the trailers before they're "officially" released. Got one just recently, but have already deleted it.

I've only read a few Ursula LeGuin books, but my W is a big fan and looking forward 2 the miniseries.

My D and her fiance are Star Wars nuts. They met on the line waiting for the opening of Episode 2 at the Chinese Theater. Stayed "in line" for something like 2 months (in shifts, with corporate contributions 2 charity for their time in line).

We both love the Dune miniserieses (singular plural form of "miniseries," plural plural form of "miniserie"). Hope Earthsea is at least that good.

A friend of mine and I have always wanted 2 write a screenplay for Clifford Simak's book "City". But we've been 2 busy on a certain favorite other planet 2 have the time. That, and my W and I are STILL rebuilding our house after a fire 3 years ago.
