A real Southern lady can tell someone to got to h*ll, and they'll ask for directions.
A Southerner knows the difference between y'all and all y'all.
Southern girls talk so slow, that by the time they say they aren't that kind of girl.......they are.

Pep, this thread has definitely taken on a life of its own -- hope you don't mind.
And, what do you mean? You didn't enjoy MY posts with all your heart????????
If I cooked you up a mess of chicken fried steak and beans, would you lie and say you did?

Texans, Southerners, and us Midwesterners are a lot alike. I read through the Southern English Dictionary there and after each line the answer was, "Yep".
A variation on "y'all" that is used in some areas of the midwest is "you's" which is plural for "you and the people with you".
As for "grits and gravy", southern as they come. A question, how many of you's have had the popular dish served throughout Iowa, Minnesota, North & South Dakota, Wisconsin, etc. called "Lutefisk" (dried cod treated with lye)? I am going to admit, I can't stand the stuff, but am partial to pickled herring, pickled eggs, pickled sausage, and about anything else that can be pickled (which is about anything).
Ohh, and a traditional Midwest meal especially during the summer, pork chops (Iowa cut, of course), corn (kerneled, creamed, or on the cob), mashed potatoes & gravy, watermelon. Iced tea (sugar optional)or lemonade.
And, you can make a "casserole" out of just about any ingredients.
I like this thread.

Bear,
Nobody can eat like that anymore.
I am so hungry.
I have been on a diet of salmon, asparagus, greens and cantaloup for about a week now.
Tomorow I might add oatmeal with walnuts to the mix.
But this weekend it is going to be mexican all the way!
BTW - my southern dad wanted us to eat black eyed peas and ocra as, well as grits. Disgusting.

Sure, you can eat like that, you just have to work it off. Salt, pepper, and tobasco on my pickled egg, please.
Another cultural difference. EVERYONE around here puts ketchup & mustard on their hot dog. Children, ketchup only.
I dont eat hot dogs much, though, if I am gonna do that, I might as well have a brat w/kraut and mustard, maybe some onions to boot.
Man, am I hungry!

There should be a consitutional ammendment outlawing ketchup.
Mustard should be declared the National Condiment.
Mustard and ketchup mixing together in the same food? That's like gay marriage - let the states decide.

IMO the states have decided. It is funny, in places like...say...New York, they are pro gay M, and anti ketchup. But in the midwest, it is the opposite. Maybe there should be red states and yellow states.

OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!
I have never heard such hate speak in my entire life.......
blasphemous as well.....
Mr. Ark emails the Heinz company twice a year asking why they don't enlarge their ketchup packages just a smidgen...for he has it down to a science exactly how many one needs for any order size of fries...and feels they could save billions on the environment by simply using less packets per order...
oh my god oh my god oh my god....
outlawing ketchup...
that is so not right.....
might as well outlaw big hair spray!!!!!!!!!!if you want to get mean about this....

All this Texas/Southern talk makes me miss my grandmother She was all things Southern. She cursed Sherman till she died .
She taught me what it meant to be 'lady-like'. How to make grits, gravy, banana puddin, fried okra, biscuits...
My CA friends with all their CA Cuisine ... they just go on and on about my cooking. H proposed after my homemade chicken-fried steak w/cream gravy and mashed potatoes, with green beens all boiled to hell w/saltpork. I dont think that was a coincidence (He's a Texas boy, too).
mmm I'm gettin hungry. [ February 24, 2005, 11:40 AM: Message edited by: Drucilla ]

Legato -
Funny you should say that about Condoleeza'a hair as someone just said that this morning at work. And believe it or not I said "I just love her name though. Sounds like a good African-American name to me"
Isn't that a co-winkydinky? [ February 24, 2005, 01:53 PM: Message edited by: weaver ]
