Weave, I think Mackinaw CITY is spelled with a W but the ISLAND ends with a C. Don't know why!
Anyway, I have stayed at the Grand several times and was quite CREEPED OUT! One of the hotel employees told me there are ghosts there. So, if you go the Grand, take your pistol! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

Oh that sounds like fun!
Of course the only way I'ld be able to stay there is to get on as one of the hired help. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
A haunted hotel would be a blast.
Who you gonna call? Ghost Busters!

Now see Mel..
this is a perfect example where we texans and northerners part ways...
a pistol on a ghost....
A PISTOL ON A GHOST!!!!!!!!!!!!
we northerners know you can't shoot a ghost..
we northerners politely tell the ghost to go in to the light...and quit bothering us....

When face to face with a ghost... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" /> As my mama used to say "Tis better to have shot and missed than never to have shot at all".

to4t,
Is that what your mama REALLY used to say???
They grow em odd down there don't they? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
Have you ever read the book "Momma Makes Up Her Mind" by Jan something I think. She is the same author who wrote "A Good Year For Plums", anyway "Momma" is one of my all time favorite books.
It was so funny, and those southern ladies were hysterical.

Mel & Weaver - Last time I checked I'm a "she". <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />
Weaver - not exactly in those words, but she had some wise sayings. Like "Start out like you can hold out" regarding my marriage, which I totally disregarded and look where I am now. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
I don't think I've read that book but somewhere I have a book called "Mommyisms" thats fun.

Now, really, ya'll. Think about your spelling here. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />
A hoe-down is what happens after one puts ones hoe (a gardening tool) down. There is an English custom of "harvest home" which was a dinner and barn dance that farmers held for their workers after the year's work was done.
A ho-down? Well, that's another thing altogether. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" /> PM
