Yep, they cancelled all the local schools hours before the first flake fell. A weapon of mass disruption. And you wonder about the gov't?
That said, I'd rather be swinging on a mooring ball in Cane Garden bay than giggling about our inability to handle a little slush.

Well, you all are going to get smashed under snow. Just had our morning briefing, and we're suspending our snow analysis for the NE until after the storm.

Those wusses! What a bunch of panty waste's!
Hey maybe they all watched "The Day After" this weekend and they are just a little freaked.
Hope Graycloud doesn't come on here and give ya'll a good "whatfor" for making fun of "our" (not his) gov weather people.

I'm not making fun of the weather people - quite the contrary. I'm making fun of US (collectively) and our apparent inability to manage a bit of inconvenience! The local gov't's obviously have a great deal of respect for the weather forecasters - else they wouldn't be making these decisions so far in advance. As a kid I remember storms sneaking up on us without much warning. Somehow we survived. BTW, how DID we get through our childhood without wearing bike helmets?

Have you seen how people around here drive in the snow? When we just have flurries people slow down to 10 mph, in the left lane of the beltway, with the flashers on!

I've been to the DC area before. I looked in my rental car, but I didn't seem to have the "Abandon Car Now" light that so many others had. I've never seen so many cars just left on the road, on the side of the road, etc, all because of 6" of snow.
I recall working near Tysons II and staying at the Residence Inn maybe a couple miles away and having to dodge cars just left on Leesberg Pike.
I don't miss going to McLean, VA one bit

We played outside from sunup until sundown, going home for meals, and then hightailing it home when the streetlights came on.
Never heard of kidnappers and such back then. Atleaast my mom never worried about them.

And here I am sitting at home as the big fluffy flakes continue to fall. Schools are closed, other things are closed, and even 12 hours after the "heavy snow warning" began, nothing is sticking to the ground. The weather guys are still saying 3 to 6 inches, but personally I think this is God's way of deciding that we all needed a day off to enjoy ourselves. In honor of that..... I'm going to take a long nap.

arkie - I bet you intentionally mentioned "snowpersons" and "snowballs" and "ambush" in the same post. - obviously baiting me into seeing if I would stoop to asking that perpetual question - how to tell the difference between snowmen and snowwomen - so you could have fun at my expense.
But I WON'T take the bait.
But I like the we vs Texas idea. And - I rode the Metro today, so you and weave can wait as long as you want by my car. They arrest ladies in the Metro for eating candy bars - so don't even THINK of taking a snowball in there.

Oh you poor, poor people.
Saturday, I was taking my little girl to the park in short sleeves. The sun was shining down nice and warm. It was only 60F, but in the sun, twas might comfy - not bad for February.
Don't you wish you lived in 'Bama too?

arkie - Well actually, that lady made the silly mistake of back talking the Metro officer. So the real offense was being stoopid (although that alone doesn't seem severe enough to get many Congresspersons arrested). All she had to do was mumble, "Yes, I understand the rules about no eating or drinking on the trains. I'll not ever come this close to doing that again. <gulp>"
But nooooooOOOOOOOOoooooooo!
She HAD to back talk the cop.

The weather wimps are everywhere. Here in Eastern Ohio we have a winter storm advisory and a heavy snow advisory. They started at 4 P.M. today but a lot of schools cancelled and delayed this A.M. A lot of silliness if you ask me. But even better than that I went to the local grocery store last evening to get some milk just because we were out. The lines reached to the back of the store and the shelves were practically bare. Everyone was stocking up for the storm. Please tell me I'm not the only person who keeps food in the house and could survive being grounded by a foot of snow! I mean hello you live in the snow belt you expect snow occasionally eh?

The other night a friend and I were at a party. It snowed about 6" while we were there. On his way home, my friend stuck to the left lane on the freeway, the only one with a decent set of tracks cut into it. Had his 4WD on, so he was only doing about 45. Conditions were terrible. I know, I was on my way home at the same time.
A car rolled up behind him, got right on his butt. My friend stayed put, watching his rearview. After a minute the guy backed off, then made a move toward the next lane, immediately lost control, and slammed his car into the median head first. The dude was okay - just took a beating from his airbag. But he destroyed his car because at 3 A.M. in a snowstorm, 45 was too slow for him.

CsCs -
Well we have some doozies up here. And I do stock up...wine, cigarettes, coffee and hotwings.
Oh no, wait a minute that was the old me. Dang!
Once we got snowed in for 5 days and the National Guard had to come dig us out. Nobody could get diapers, formula, precriptions. The cops had to deliver these necessities on snowmobiles.
I was stuck in my house for FIVE days. That was in the good ole days though, so had lots of wine and smokes.
