MM was the one who likened what soldiers do to the execution of death row inmates. I just gave my thoughts as they came on what he said. MM said - It is the guards duty to pull the switch in the execution. It is the soldier's duty to "execute" enemies of our nation. They are very much similar, especially in the case of what Mr. W was talking about in regards to how a civilized nation can execute someone. Simple. The same nation that can execute a cold-blooded murderer is the same civilized nation that can drop 500lbs bombs on hundreds of people, killing and maiming them. The only offense I take of your post is your assumption that I do not support our military efforts, and the soldiers who are bound to carry them out. I am very much a citizen of this country, and a supporter of our military. I grew up in the military, and I have the deepest respect for it's members. The bill for the Dept. of Peace which has already been introduced and re-introduced will work WITH the Dept. of Defense, not against it. And as you already know, Jesus walks with me every day, all day, and God is at the center of all that I am. And I will do all that I can to spread His love, forgiveness and peace...as this is my purpose on this earth. I know that FH, and you didn't offend me too much...I just wish you had a little more faith in me and my beliefs.

I know that FH, and you didn't offend me too much...I just wish you had a little more faith in me and my beliefs. Weaver - With you and your faith in God I have no problem and have much "faith" in it. "Usurping" God's plan, thinking that "mankind" can bring "Peace on Earth" is an OPINION (not based in faith or fact) that I disagree with. With respect to the organization you referenced, I can simply say that if Kucinich is associated with it, I'm betting it's a political tool and NOT "atruistic" in it's application, or it's goals. There are a lot of "nutballs" running around, and Kucinich is one of the "nuttier," imho. I'll stand on Christ and let Kucinich stand for whatever "trips his trigger." Suffice it to say, the Battle of Armageddon is yet to come...and by default "peace on earth" will NOT be attainable no matter how much anyone might "wish for it" (it IS a good wish). Suffice it to say that during the Tribulation, 666 will "rule the society" and NO ONE will wish "peace on earth" to any Christian, let alone even give them food. So I have NO problem with your faith or your desire for peace. But let me ask this question in all humbleness and sincerity....so as to "not disturb the 'peace,' should we NOT put on the full armor of God to "withstand," should we not "stand ready to answer those opposed to God, should we not "expose evil and demand justice?" "How long, O God......" God bless.

I have been reading here. WE can have a Dept. of Peace, when PEACE is the top priority here. NOT if safety is the top priority.
I am the daughter of a Veteran. A man who served two tours of duty in the Air Force. Thru a most bloody war.
I see life and death each day in my line of work.
And I know there are always choices to be made.
Free will.
Each human has free will. Did Tookie have free will when he chose to execute the people? yes. Did he have remorse then? No.
Did he get a fair trial? Yes. Did the verdict come? Yes.
That is clear and simple.
And to those that say they worry their daughter or son is going to be the ones who pull the trigger or push the button to send the potassium chloride into the veins of the condemned I offer this...I know of somebody who was a nurse at a prison where they did capital punishment. There is NOT one simple person who does it. They have more than one button. More than one person pushing. All do it at same time. That way there is no extra baggage. Nobody knows which button causes the drip to begin.
I have given excellent healthcare to murderers. It is my job. My friend I know also gives excellent healthcare to murderers when they come in in shackles and chains. We treat them as any other patient. She also carried out justice. Does her conscience hurt? No. Why? She said to me that "they had a choice. We all have a choice."
As for life in prison. That's fine iwth me. But let's offset the cost of housing these folks by making them really work off the cost. No more license plate making. Time for REAL work. Doing things that actually generate income. Let's have it for ALL in prison. For those who do eventually get out, let's teach them an old fashioned work ethic...and a trade maybe?
My director of my department is also an Air Force Veteran.
Since we are getting the issues at hand mixed up...the war vs. capital punishment issue.
He was a fighter pilot during vietnam. Same time my dad was serving btw. He was shot down 2x over vietnam. He witnessed horrors like I will not describe here. He and his troops fought their way out both times...he hates it when people say that vietnam was a lost war. Or a war for nothing. Ask somebody who was there...in the trenches. He was also in medical corps too! He also helped in stitching people up when he had to...when he was not flying. He even stitched up his enemies. It was a war to end the spread of Communism. Is it any wonder that the world opinion changed over the next 15 years? That communism fell? That the Berlin wall fell? It was instrumental in ending that monster. Was NOT a pointless war at all!
I have a friend who is PA serving overseas. He has same issues. He feels perfectly great with his role over there.
They brought terror to us. Served it to our country. Said to eat it. And like it. And be fearful of us! We can dictate to you what we want to. We can bring fear and evil in your own homeland. And we're faceless. Nameless. WE can strike you anywhere. Get it?
We said we don't want it. We said enough. That if you're gonna bring it, we're gonna end it. We will find you, stop you.
And it is the same with justice. If somebody is gonna break into your home, coldly murder a loved one without remorse or malice, or worse...justify it somehow..that we will find you. We will bring justice to you.
My friends who serve and served feel this way. My father felt this way. That if you're stupid enough to do the action whether it is one isolated murder, or two or three, or violent acts of war and terror, that you'd best be ok with the consequences that result from your action.
It is as simple as that. Meanwhile, my friend over there is stitching up people who don't deserve it. I see patients who are murderers (not very often but it happens) and treat them decently as people..not as convicted murderers. My friend the nurse, she treats them too...and decently. We do our jobs. We practice kindness. But we also believe in actions vs. outcomes.
If Tookie wished to live a long life...then he would NOT have killed. Period.
If he wanted peace, he should have used that free will to think of his actions...did they bring peace? Or did they bring ultimate pain?
I believe in accountability. If you live by the law, you have peace. When you are out of sync with the law...whether man's law or God's, you will NOT feel or experience the peace you could. Life is as simple as that.

MM, to answer your question on what a Dept of Peace is supposed to do, both domestically and abroad, there is already a campaign for one, and you can read about it here - www.thepeacealliance.orgNot much sustance on that website on what this department would do. I for one am trying to get people to help close down departments and agencies in Washington, so I am very wary of creating another one. Added to that, I saw the list of Congressional supporters of this department. Almost all of them, I take an exact opposite stance from them on almost every issue. So, it is a good chance that if Maxine Waters and Kucinich are for something...it probably is not a good thing!! Anyway, I would like to see some substance on this...what its structure would be, its powers and responsibilities. In His arms.

Good Post Peach..... good to hear from someone dealing with the reality of it all. Sometimes helps us have a clearer perspective as we form our individual opinions.
