Orchid, glad to hear everything seems to be okay.
Any word on whether or not there has been any effect on Kilauwea? FH, Thanks for your care. The 'experts' are now saying this earthquake is not volcano driven. The side of the island closest to the epicenter is the oldest part of the island and teh farthest away from the volcano. Yet one sink hole opened up and somebody said some smoke was coming out but not sure which island or if it is true. The epicenter was about 8 - 20 miles off the north kohala coast. The rumble we felt here seemed like it was from deep within the earth.....way below the crust. There have bene some rock slides and on part by Kealakekua shows part of the mountain falling into the ocean. Made lots of dust. Then the story went that the Captain Cook monument fell. But he's still standing. LOL!!! Hey T, I don't know about KPOI. I used to listen to 'dem 2! Must be getting old because I like Perry and Price. LOL!!! They play my kind of music and they are such jokesters. LOL!!! Take care u 2, L.

Orchid, glad to hear is seems as though things will be okay. With that large of a quake I was wondering if there might be some changing of volcanic venting or even the opening up of new lava flow areas.
On a lighter note, my house got "bumped" last night by a small earthquake. No damage or anything, but my wife and I just looked at each other when it seemed like there was a small "explosion" or "bump" that hit the house while we were watching television. There have been a series of small quakes the past several days, but nothing of any significant magnitude.
Maybe your quake is adjusting the subterrainean structure enough to move our area, thousands of miles away from you?!?!

Oh, Orchid--you're going to think Hawaii was SO totally wasted on me! I've been a vegetarian since I was a fetus (several months ago, that would be ), so most of the things you mentioned are things I've never tasted in my life. However, the vegetarians were able to make some pretty neat substitutes while I was growing up. I've enclosed a link to a picture of my life-long favorite, taken just last year during our visit to Oahu--most fortuitously timed to coincide with a food fair at the elementary school on Makiki St., where I passed my juvenile days. I think they look pretty tasty, even if they are gluten! soy barbies at the school fair What I liked was fried rice, kimpida (sp?), fried lotus root in shoyu/sugar sauce, those yellow sushis with the sweet rice stuffing, veggie shikabobs (as Neak's youngest calls them), lilikoi juice, green mangos and shoyu (especially tasty when plucked and eaten while sitting in the mango tree, knife in one hand and shoyu bottle in the other), curry and rice, teriyaki gluten. I'm sure there was more, but I'm going to quit because the cafeteria is closed and I'm making myself hungry without being able to do anything about it. There's a Hawaiian Mission Academy reunion this weekend in Oakdale, of all places, with TWO potlucks...and I'll try and refresh my memory! I didn't get to go to the beach a whole lot--my folks were always working--but I sure gave the Honolulu library a run for its money, and would ride the bus from Pensacola and back to return a stack of books and pick up another. Can't believe KPOI is still in business. What do they play now? Just heard a patient is arriving, and unfortunately, she's mine. Aloha... s
