No, it's funky downtown Palo Alto -- an old house (ie, 1940s).

With a fenced-in yard for my animals, and even a fireplace!

So ... what are you warning me about exactly? Fire or earthquake?

I had to sign a whole bunch of releases for asbestos, etc., but none for fire...

old chimneys get cracks during quakes

you light a fire and everything appears OK until the smoke/heat/embers go thru a crack in the chimney to where it is not supposed to be & can cause smoke to build up in the attic, or worse, start a fire

just ask the owners if they have had a chimney inspection since the last quake

No, wait, 2Long won’t show unless I bring beer.

AMM:

Listen to Pep. Earthquakes are not the only things that cause problems in the Chimney.

Someone who lives just over a mile away, and if it wasn't for the darn tress, I could see the house...(I am in the country)

Had a nice fire in the fireplace, and did exactly as Pep described Did over $150k in damage, and thay are still living in the trailer, not the house.

However, I can drop off one of those patio Chimnera (SP?) things in the meantime!

Help me out guys. XH sent a letter to his sister saying that, although he and wistress "loved each other deeply" they are clearly "on different paths" and are breaking up.

Since she didn't know they were married, the news of the divorce is kind of strange.

Why can't either of them just admit they were in la la land? She's still denouncing him on the internet, all the while protesting her love.

It does grind at me a bit, I'll admit, but is largely irrelevant to my life. I would like to understand the psychology.

Ha! Deep love leads to separation? Well makes one think that M is useless in WS land. LOL!!!

It seems really brazen to attempt a threadjack, even such a tiny one as this will be, on your thread without at least saying congratulations on the new house (and job). When we take my adopted grandchild to Stanford Children's Hospital for his checkups we always admire the houses in Palo Alto. Did they charge you an arm or a leg to live in one? Or both?

t&l

P.S. Pep, sorry about this, but you have hopelessly intrigued me into a question. I've put it over between tampons and pads. Thanks...

Wow. That's beautiful Orchid and Pepper. You put the words to an inchoate feeling I had about it.

He's just allergic to the phrase, "I made a mistake."

I'm sure they will both fool many who believe words and not actions.

I really do feel the emails to me were a preliminary scout to see if I was still waiting, and whether the waters are still tepid. I could be wrong about it. Doesn't matter whether I am or am not. I can't afford to take on his problems. And he's still not addressing any of them.

I've been going through a lot of emotional swings lately -- so many changes at once. But I had a friend, a surfer, who used to say, "When you are riding a surf and trying to stay on top of your board -- it's friction. When you fall off the board and it's hitting you in the head and you are swallowing salt water -- it's also friction. But they're different."

In the end, emotions are just emotions, and intelligence, will and purpose will see us through them. In other words, after four years of an unimaginable situation, I'm riding the surf board and not somewhere under it.

Thndrnltnig, there's Palo Alto and there's Palo Alto. Down on University Avenue toward 101, there are the grand, rich, old houses. Midtown is Eichler upon Eichler, and there's more of a rabbit-warren feel to it. Student housing on the north end of town by the Creek is often small and rundown (though still expensive). I'm in the California Avenue area -- it's mixed. A lot of those houses have been remodeled and built up to multi-million status, but there are a few funky old homes from the 40s and 50s. I have one of those. I'm kind of funky too, so it will work fine.

And actually, though the management firm that runs it seems somewhat fascistic (and they may throw me out in the end for any number of infractions), the price wasn't that bad. Many apartments here go for more.

Sorry to be so late getting back to you. Right now I only have internet access at work.

A.M.,

I can translate for you! His email says:

"Attention family and anyone whose bridge I haven't burnt. Remember the lady I swore was my soulmate and my one-true-love while breaking the heart of the wife of my youth and mother of my children? The one whom I dumped all you for because her love was so all encompassing and deep? Well, it turns out SHE WAS WRONG! So even though we never had a REAL marriage because I was still married to someone else--we have decided to have a fake divorce too. So pity me, because I am the victim here."

AMM,

Never mind her. You have known for some time he, himself, is not all there.

Can you just ignore it all?

I suppose it's like watching the proverbial train wreck, or massive 100 car pile up on the expressway. Hard to not rubberneck. I include myself.

AMM, this could be the inspiration for your next book!

with prayers,

Mojodiva, Bellevue, Orchid,

Check out the blog. It's long and tangled -- but OW/wistress is now complaining how miserable she was for the whole time, how brutal the A was, and how nobody treated her right. She is maliciously exposing XH's sexual problems and limitations, and the intimacies of their "married" life -- all the while talking about how much she "loves" him!

HEY EVERYBODY OUT THERE! THE AFFAIR REALLY ISN'T AS GOOD AS IT MAY LOOK, OR AS GOOD AS THEY'RE SAYING IT IS! DON'T TRUST YOUR EYES! DON'T TRUST YOUR EARS! TRUST THE MB WISDOM! IT REALLY WAS A FAR, FAR BETTER PREDICTOR OF WHAT WAS HAPPENING, AND WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN, THAN ANY OF MY FRIENDS, HIS FRIENDS, OR HER FRIENDS! MB IS MATHEMATICAL! MB IS ORACULAR! IT REALLY WORKS!

Happy as a clam in Palo Alto,
A.M.M.

Thanks AMM, I now have my word de jure: ORACULAR -

1 relating to oracles or in the form of an oracle

2 knowing, wise, or prophetic

3 mysterious, puzzling, ambiguous, or enigmatic

Funny how some words can be used to mean diametrical opposites. If I write any tech reports today I will use it in each one.

How’s the new job?

How’s DD?

With prayers,

PS: I tried reading the blog. Gave me a headache, actually. Had to stop and splash cold water on my head.

...can't the communications link between Palo Alto and the place where the affairees live be severed?

I've been 2 Palo Alto (in my Model A!), and it's a nice place 2 not dwell on the past.

Wouldn't want to, 2long. At least not entirely.

I'm still in touch with his kids and family, and have many mutual friends. The kids and family, in particular, are getting his disinformation campaign. (see above)

Besides, this is MY life playing out, too. Just because you left the theatre, doesn't mean you don't want to know what happened at the end of the movie.
