I still embrace my band geek. I follow drum corp a little. I'm a big fan of the Madison Scouts.
I was actually invited to tour Europe with the National Collegiate Wind Ensemble, BUUUTTTT my priorities were a bit skewed at 18 and I chose to play American Legion baseball instead. It was a travel squad and we went to Panama City, Fl. You can see how tough a decision that was to make.
I did have the pleasure of getting my a$$ handed to me by the future LSU College World Series Champs. They beat us 19 to 17 in 4 1/2 hours in August in South Louisiana at noon.
At least I can tell my grand kids one day that I got a base hit off those b@stards.
Is it still called Drum Corp International? Most of our assistants from my high school days marched with the Cadets of Bergen County, if that is what they are still called. I didn't follow it too much. I joined the marching Ravens for a short time.

It's still DCI. I checked into it in HS, but it cost thousands to march with a top corp. I had a very hard working dad that wasn't GIVING me thousands to go play band all summer. He didn't get it and I wasn't about to try and explain it to him. I like being alive.

I wasn't good enough to tryout. But, there was one girl, a few years ahead of me, that did try out for The Cadets and she was cut the first day. That had to suck.

Them what still has the wind to do it, can play in 100 tubas a week or so before Christmas in Dallas or other cities. Fun. I been to a couple.
Hey Beau, if you still into tubeau, I got on a kick last year or so to see who was the best of the best for tuba. After listening to the guy who allegedly plays tuba for Canadian Brass, I figured that most orchestra leaders wouldn't know a good tuba player if their head got stuck in one, so I listened to every band or afterthought I could find including some in languages I didn't understand.
I finally found this one guy in heeresmusikkorps6 (German Army Band 6) I listened to him through a couple of plays and didn't hear him do one, not one, single, nada, lip break. The invite you turned down was world class. But then Panama City is, er, Panama City. If you had told your little head about nude beaches in France, you prolly would have gone in a different direction

Hey guys, well, I talked to the kids on the way home today and asking if they wanted to go to the Tabasco plant this weekend to see how it was made and the oldest cheered.
I told him he was going to have to finish him school work first, a result of his slow poking, but we're headed that way! Just wanted to say thanks for the idea!
Mr. Larry and Mr. Beau!
I really can't relate to all this band talk...LOL...I was a singer...LOL...
I'm sure that you all had tons of fun!

If you had told your little head about nude beaches in France, you prolly would have gone in a different direction D@mn!! I did NOT think about that! I did make it to France when I worked for Schlumberger and night time prime time TV was VERY interesting. I am a pretty big fan of Canadian Brass, so if you found somebody that can put him to shame I'd like to check it out. SPEAKING of lower brass band nerds. Check this out. A very good friend of mine is married to a professional drummer and this is one of his bands. It's Harry Conick Jr's trombome section and some CRAZY Tuba guy playing rock and roll. It's absolutely AWSOME!! Bonerama Web Site Bonerama My Space - Better for listening Enjoy

Dangit Beau, now you done cost me money. But it is worth it. Bonerama is good stuff. And it is that tuba guy is playing trumpet parts plus his own stuff, which is as it should be. Perrine is really good. Heck at one point in mouse, I heard him playing the SAX part. Sweet. And he is smooth as silk with pure notes. I am a pretty big fan of Canadian Brass, so if you found somebody that can put him to shame I'd like to check it out. Hmmm. How to explain my opinion of the tuba guy in Canadian Brass. I just played Tuba Polka again to hear it. The guy has as good a coordination between his tongue, lip and fingers as it gets, world class. Problem is that he sounds like he is, uh, over brassy with lip breaks, if that makes sense. His sound isn't pure, in other words. He hits the notes maybe too hard. Heck I dunno how to describe what I am hearing. Maybe it sounds like one of his tuba joints is loose or something. Heck I dunno. I noticed in the pic that Perrine was holding on to his mouthpiece extension. That holds his lip in synch and keeps him from overdriving. Besides, those Sousaphones will lean forward on you if you don't watch them. http://orgs.tntech.edu/tuba/muzak/Phat%20Bottom.mp3http://www.bestyears.com/oldtubaplayer.htmlhttp://www.fromthetop.org/Programs/performers.cfm?pid=1677And the last one is about Carol Jantsch, who is probably the best young tuba player in the world. I think she even plays flute parts. She is seriously good. How she plays flight of the bumble bee is that she doesn't overdrive the horn like a lot of tuba players do when they get in a hurry. So maybe that is what I meant about the Canadian Brass guy. Larry

Well, STBX showed up this afternoon after not seeing DS for a week, excuses in hand. My mom also showed up for the weekend. STBX spent the ENTIRE time texting OM2 in FRONT of my mom. Then when she was leaving I told her I was willing to let her have DS next weekend so we could keep the same schedule we had before.
She refused b/c she was going out of town next weekend to see....any one want to guess
OM2!!!
I simply said, "Good job STBX, have a nice life"
I started walking away and she called out to me. I gave her a one finger salute as I walked away and went in the house.
A little while later I went out to smoke a Cigar to calm down. I decided to send her a text. Here's exactly what I wrote
The door is closed. You'll never hurt me again as long as I live.
I got a reply a few minutes later, but all it said was missing text. I don't know if she tried and it didn't get through or she hit the wrong button and replied without typing anything.
Doesn't matter. Whatever little hope I had is gone now. I deserve so much better than that TRAMP.
I knew what was going on, but to have her flaunt it in from of my mom and then tell me she's going to see him a thousand miles away still hurt like he11.
I'm OK, just shook up.
back to movin on

((((((((((((BC))))))))))))))
Oh, BC, I'm so sorry that the reality of your STBX's choices hit you so hard tonight! I'm sorry for your DS too! You both deserve so much more!
I hope that you find peace in today! Do yourself a favor and take a little extra time to do some self-care...in addition, to what you are already doing...you deserve it for all the hard work that you've been doing...
Enjoy your mom...I'm sure you are REALLY appreciating her this weekend! Everything that she's done for you!
She'll never understand the blessings she was graced with! Perhaps now would be a great time for your to go extremely dark...just more protection...for you and DS! Prior to Jun 1st, of course, afte the shock of tonight has woren off, you may even want to rethink that idea...
I don't understand how a mother could do the things that she's doing...once again, I am SOOOO very sorry!!
You and DS are in my thoughts and prayers!

Drug addicts (affairees) abuse the ones who love them the most. At some point in time, going dark is a great idea to protect yourself and your emotions from being used and abused.
Male social conditioning shames us when we grow horns. That is a bunch of baloney that only applied pre pill. We don't have control over our wives so why should we be shamed? It is that your STBX slid into addiction and runs from you to protect her fantasy. It is okay to have feelings for her as she used to be but no longer is that same person.
Pity instead of anger is probably the most reality based emotion at this point in time.
