interesting... you say it's a waste of energy and yet you still are using yours by responding, and gee, by whinning about the fact that this thread exists. So, you think these threads are productive? I would like to hear how so. BTW, I believe its spelled WHINING, not "whinning."

MR, do you have "gray thinking problems"? i think they make a pill for that. Apparently so ... I don't think I want a pill to cure it though, as that would put me out of touch with reality. Seriously tough, there are so few things in the WHOLE world that are Black & White, it is ridiculous to debate basically ANYTHING from that position. However, there are still those that attempt it only to prove that they have NO UNDERSTANDING of human nature or how to address a real world problem in a meaningful fashion. However, those types do exist, especially on internet message boards where their annonymity gives them a certain protection from having to face and deal with their own foolishness. They are simply IRRELEVANT and to be IGNORED. Thanks for interjecting a little levity into this dark place.

If you're referring to the "honesty" debate, my opposition to your opinion had little if anything to do with if you were a licensed therapist or not.
IMO your argument had no merit simply because (a) you were trying to identify honesty as the problem, when the true problem was adultery, and (2) you were basing your suggestion of taking a "conditional honesty" approach on only one, and IMO quite improbable, outcome of following your advice and refusing to look at the other possible outcomes of doing so. Sorry MIM, you are NOT who I was referring to. Honestly, I don't recall our debate, and there has been a couple of "honesty" threads lately that I've posted on, but you were not who I was directing my comments towards. Actually, I've found your posts to be pretty well thought out, even if I didn't always agree with your positon, but I think I've agreed with you more often than not.

Seriously tough, there are so few things in the WHOLE world that are Black & White, it is ridiculous to debate basically ANYTHING from that position. But that opinion is, admittedly, just a "grey" fuzzy opinion and not based on any absolute standard of truth, right?

AGree, MIM. His argument was soundly refuted on its own merits - by numerous posters - not because he isn't a licensed psychologist. He is just sore that he couldn't make his case and is crying about it. I think what MyRev probably doesn't grasp is that many of us here are not pontificating from our armchairs. Most of us have *lived* through the experience of adultery, either as BS, WS or both. We can look back at our experiences and determine what really works and what really doesn't. For example, I can pull just from my personal experience alone several examples of where "conditional honesty", while granting a short-term reprieve from the consequences, usually does not work in the long term. In fact, right now I'm struggling with a somewhat similar situation, where there's even greater detachment to the person involved, and greater risk to my family's well-being if his actions are exposed, and I find myself in a quandary about what I should actually do. I might start another thread about it.
