You're ALL confused!!

Only Calif knows how to REALLY BBQ!!!!!!

Real California Barbecue:

One free-range organically fed pig
Mixed organic greens, lightly rinsed in twice-filtered water drawn from a protected well
Organic tahini dressing, homemade
Organic tomatoes cleansed with organic fruit/vegetable soap
Organic broccoli sprouts
Raw organic pecans, shelled

Toss the greens, tahini dressing, tomatoes, sprouts, and pecans, in a bowl hewn from wood that was harvested in an environmentally friendly manner, and sold by a fair-trade partnership. Serve with seasonal fruits, and an organic whole-grain quinoa pilaf.

The piggie? Please! Why do you love the animals you call pets, and eat the ones you call dinner?

The piggie is for petting!

What Charlotte, you wouldn't like California style BBQ?!?!

I can throw in some Oxfam-approved organic free-trade coffee, as a bonus. Then we can all sit in a drumming circle, and wait for our spirit guides to appear to us individually.

Whether that's authentically our religion, or not.

(Actually, Charlotte, on some of the local islands there are wild boars which will, given half a chance, eat whatever. Including ... Well, let's just say they attack, and they bite! Haven't heard of one eating a person though.)

ROTFLMAO over here!!!!!!!!

Texas BBQ and GERMANS make the best sauce!!!!!

Testify!

It was German immigrants in the Hill Country that invented chicken fried steak, y'all...we claimed the culinary high ground early on and there's no toppling us off now!

Yeah...the Germans were fond of weinerschnitzels (Vienna Schnitzel), which is a pounded veal cutlet that is breaded and then pan fried. When they got to Texas, veal was in short supply - why kill a calf when you can raise it to a full grown steer and make more money? So they started taking cheaper cuts of beef, pounding or perforating them, breading and pan-frying - thus chicken fried steak.

I was born in Fort Hood. I lived in San Antonio for 3 years, El Paso for a total of 15 years, and Dallas for 2 years. My parents and both sisters live in the DFW area. My niece recently graduated from A&M (gig 'em!).

All my exes used to live in Texas, but then one of them up and moved to Louisiana

Nerly was correct. REAL BBQ originated in sunny California.

And BTW, I heard last year during Thanksgiving, Texas had the most home fires resulting from deep frying turkeys.

True Dixe?

Okay,

So here I am, stuck in the Texas Hill Country. We have a storm coming in.

My husband, born and raised just outside of Lubbock (in a tiny little teensy town called Whiteface) is the BBQ king in our area. The total and complete king. He actually won our annual chili cookoff the last time we had it.

I live in the most rural area and it's just so dinky. We get together in our neighborhood to celebrate almost anything. BBQ included.

Our neighbor really did set his field on fire last year deep frying his turkey, so yes, we are truly in Hickville.

Count him as one of those stats.

That's okay, because on d-day, I was so upset, I went over to talk to this same neighbor, and he was

deep frying cheese.

He forgot about the deep fryer, because he was trying to comfort me in my panic and crying.

And set his kitchen on fire. We realized something must be wrong as we sat on the front porch, when the alarm went off and smoke came billowing out the screen door - along with countless freaked-out kittens and two rather rapidly moving dogs.

We both ran in, trying to figure out what in the world was going on, when he realized he was cooking when I came over.

One emptied fire extinguisher later, and about an hour of open windows and doors, and the smoke cleared out.

True story.

So my d-day involved my neighbor's kitchen fire, and my wayward husband, neighbor, and I cleaning up the mess, painting the ceiling, replacing the range and range hood, and cleaning up smoke damage........

all before his wife got home.

Home Depot got the sale of the new appliances, paint, and smoke-damage cleaner. Who said affairs don't cost anything????

I almost forgot all of that until just now.

Looking back, I guess I have to laugh. It is funny, now.

And I came here trying to think of something so I could get the last word and get this thread locked.

Shoot.

Maybe I should say something really controversial, but I just can't think of anything.

Hey, I know where Whiteface is!! Out by Levelland. Of course he would know great BBQ, being an upstanding WEST TEXAN. A little bit of paint and a few new appliances can cover up most anything, huh? lol

Well yeah. That's because in Texas our turkeys are SO BIG, we have to fry 'em in our BIG OLE swimming pools and what with having the BIGGEST wind gusts in the country in November... there ya have it. Besides that... we use beer instead of lighter fluid!
