This movie title is supposed to be a play on words, "maid of honor". The official synopsis is: "Tom leads a good life: he's sexy, successful, and he knows he can always rely on Hannah, his delightful best friend and the one constant in his life. It's the perfect setup until Hannah goes overseas to Scotland in a six-week business trip ... and Tom is stunned to realize how empty his life is without her. He resolves that upon her return, he'll ask Hannah to marry him - but is floored when he learns that she has become engaged to a handsome and wealthy Scotsman and plans to move overseas. When Hannah asks Tom to be her "maid of honor", he reluctantly agrees to fill the role ... but only so he can attempt to woo Hannah and stop the wedding before it's too late."My review: Tom leads a bachelor's life alright, one bereft of sexual scruples. He is, in fact, a lothario. He is blind to the pain he causes all the women he beds. His long friendship with Hannah ignores the fact that she is obviously smitten with him. It is "the perfect set up" for any lothario, but certainly not perfect for Hanna or the young women Tom takes to his bed for sex. It gets worse. Tom uses deception and trickery to "woo" Hannah back .... yeah, right, like that ought to make any bride's heart sing. Here's the rest: The wedding day arrives in Scotland - Tom rides a horse to get to the church in order to stop the wedding. (This is supposed to make it romantic, get it?). The Scot-groom punches Tom in the nose. Hannah breaks off her marriage to a decent man in order to return to New York for wedded bliss with a man who has taken most of her girlfriends to bed.
Sound like fun to you? This movie has an obscene plot. This movie is poorly acted. This movie is predictable. This movie made me want to screamTom is not MADE OF HONOR - so many red flags were waving about his lack of honor .... *spit* (getting rid of bad taste in mouth)

Have you seen Enchanted? I thought it had sort of mixed messages.
The main female character ends up leaving her fiance for someone else - but he was only a fiance, not a husband. And things work out for him in the end. The other problem is I thought it emphasized the infatuation stage of love far too much.
On the other hand, there was an emphasis on marriage being forever and she, being from fairytale cartoon world, cried buckets when she found out some couple she didn't even know was getting a divorce. The couple ended up staying married after all, partly because of her. That part of the movie was really nice, I think.
From an entirely entertainment perspective, though, it was a really funny movie.

I saw a movie that I really liked about a month ago... Atonement.
The moral of the story was how one lie can ruin people and change their lives forever.

I saw a movie that I really liked about a month ago... Atonement.
The moral of the story was how one lie can ruin people and change their lives forever. That was a beautiful movie...I really enjoyed it.

The best movie I have seen in years is Charlie Wilson's WAR with Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. It is a true story about a Texas congressman from Lufkin and a Houston socialite and their involvement in arming the Afghans and helping them run off the Rooskies. There are some hilarious moments, most especially when Tom Hanks asks the Israeli Defense minister to sell arms to Muslims in Afghanistan. I thought the poor man was going to choke! This was after Charlie Wilson visited a Muslim Prime Minister and asked him for a "drink!" **snort**  It is the kind of movie that makes you want to stand up and cheer!

But speaking of disgusting movies, I saw on Amazon.com that Bridges of Madison County was a top selling movie.
Amazing that can sell that PIG as a romance. That movie is about as "romantic" and 2 pigs going at it in the pig pen. You can dress up a PIG, but all you have is a PIG with a dress! ugh!:eek:

I HATED Bridges of Madison County even before discovering my H's affair..What a YUCKY movie! I agree...
ENCHANTED is soooo UTTERLY romantic...
There IS a such thing as HEALTHY romance..not the ADDICTIVE kind evidenced by the AFFAIREES...

I've been told so often recently how it's narrow-minded of me to be negative about infidelity, and how much romance there is in selfishness.
And it's so much better for kids to be not be with parents who don't love each other. (Anyone got a sick bag?)
Hollywood has an awful lot to answer for, but so have the people who go to see this dross and choose to believe it.
(I did love Atonement, and the book makes the psychological undercurrents horribly clear. But, you know, there will be lots of people who read the book / watch the movie and all they'll see is that Briony got away with it to the very end.)

I recently watched "Walk the Line," about Johnny Cash, and it really made me sick. His wife is at home taking care of his daughters and the home, making it possible for him to be the famous singer he was, and he's out screwing around and chasing the OW, June. And of course, it ends with him marrying the OW and "they live happily ever after, married for 35 years and had a son." Hollywood crap! I wonder what happened to his ex-wife or his daughters, who he gave up for the OW?

My wife and I sat down one night and watched a dvd called "Shattered" with Pierce Bronson and Maria Bello not knowing anything about the plot. Boy was that a mistake! It didn't glamorize infidelity but it sure did trigger both of us with the surprise ending.
