My perfect trip right now would be to Florida. We went there right after D-Day and stayed for 2 weeks. I want to go to Port Orange and have a breakfast of grilled fish and mimosas at Crabby Joe's and then sit UNDER the pier on the beach all day, reading and talking, until the tide is too high to stay.

And then the next day, ride A1A to St. Augustine and shop on St. George St. and sit on the benches at the fort across the street.

And then go back to my sister's in Oak Hill and LOVE being with her.

Right now, that sounds like heaven to me... ABSOLUTE HEAVEN.

And then I want to go to my favorite place in all the world. Niagara Falls. I have no words to describe how that place makes me feel.

Great topic.

Well Mimi, this D is becoming so financially devastating that I can't even afford to travel in my dreams. Gawd, I hate A's.

Anyway, Believer I think that you have a great idea. We should all go on a cruise. Maybe when I don't have to pay an atty anymore, I can afford it. Where would we go?

W2LE, your idea sounds good too. Florida I could get to by car. I75 South all the way....

My middle name should be GO!!! I want to go almost everywhere relatively safe. I nearly got killed in a hot air balloon crash in Alice Springs Australia in 1986. So, I have a reasonable fear of doing dangerous things abroad.

No problem, you can go on my dream budget cool

I don't know about cruises though, I think I am too restless for that. I can join if I can get of the ship now and then and walk around in dusty towns and visit the countryside. I love to travel and explore new places, try local food and see what life is like there.

Me and my then-not-W H have travelled a lot. But I think it would be good for me to start building my own memories. I will see what the summer will bring, maybe a visit to a friends family across the country, a place with excellent sea kayaking.

Just a message someone sent me - allegedly written by Andy Rooney, the CBS correspondent.

As I grow in age, I value women over 40 most of all. Here are just a few reasons why:

A woman over 40 will never wake you in the middle of the night and ask, 'What are you thinking?' She doesn't care what you think. If a woman over 40 doesn't want to watch the game, she doesn't sit around whining about it. She does something she wants to do, and it's usually more interesting. Women over 40 are dignified. They seldom have a screaming match with you at the opera or in the middle of an expensive restaurant. Of course, if you deserve it, they won't hesitate to shoot you if the y think they can get away with it. Older women are generous with praise, often undeserved. They know what it's like to be unappreciated. Women get psychic as they age. You never have to confess your sins to a woman over 40. Once you get past a wrinkle or two, a woman over 40 is far sexier than her younger counterpart. Older women are forthright and honest. They'll tell you right off if you are a jerk if you are acting like one . You don't ever have to wonder where you stand with her.

Yes, we praise women over 40 for a multitude of reasons.

Unfortunately, it's not reciprocal. For every stunning, smart, well-coiffed, hot woman over 40, there is a bald, paunchy relic in yellow pants making a fool of himself with some 22-year old waitress. Ladies, I apologize.

For all those men who say, 'Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?', here's an update for you. Nowadays 80% of women are against ma rriage Why? Because women realize it's not worth buying an entire pig just to get a little sausage!

Andy Rooney is a really smart guy!

(BTW, as much as I LOVE to travel, all this talk about traveling is feeding my depression and current despair.)

There are some short cruises to the Virgin Islands, or the Bahamas, or something like that. They always get good ratings.
There is a short one here in California to Catalina Island and Mexico, but I think there is a lot of drinking. One review said that the organization, planning wasn't very good, but everyone was so drunk it didn't matter.

Cinder,

I remember watching that episode of 60 Minutes with Andy Rooney. I've thought about it frequently. It certinly does make sense.

Believer, let's do the cruise without the drinking. I hate being around a bunch of drunks. Too much vomit.

Maybe we can have an imaginery vacation. Right in our own home.

My first move would be to cut off the phone - "No calls, I'm on vacation".

Next, no cooking. I would plan to order out and preferably have meals delivered by room service.

Then, a tour of my town (which is beautiful), as a tourist. Rides on the bus, checking out all of the local action, shopping in the little shops I never visit, lunch out.

Then back to my room, no cooking, no housework, no work at all, just lazing around, staying up watching movies very late, sleeping in.......... Then something very fattening for breakfast - crepes??????

Have you ever had the 'Peasant Potatoes' at Le Peep? It's a chain of breakfast/brunch/lunch restaurants. No dinner. Potatoes good enough to make you wanna order an extra order.

Can I go with you B?

I lived in your town till I was about 12-13. There is soooo much there, I would like to see it as an adult.

I remember going to the beaches, boating, our fruit trees. It was fun. I could really appreciate it more now that I'm grown up cool

I'll need a driver though...I can't drive in the big cities!

Don't have that here in Southern California. But I'm a potato lover. One dinner would be baked potatoes with sour cream and chives, cheese, olives, salsa, mushrooms and bacon, all piled on top.

Then, for me - someone to do my yardwork. I can imagine eating strawberries dipped in chocolate while gazing out my window, watching my much younger yard boy, his muscles glistening in the sun. He would happily take care of EVERYTHING out there, and look good doing it.

LEAVE IT TO BELIEVER!!

I'm for this. I think we ALL should do this at least ONCE A MONTH!

No sites to see in my town but for me BARNES AND NOBLE and COLDSTONE CREAMERY would be on my "GO TO" LIST...
