In the movie, not one of the four main characters was promiscuous NOR committed adultery.

Ah, but PM at least two of them were having sex outside of marriage...(Carrie & Samantha)...

And I stand firm that there was adultery because of the affair marriage...True, not technically Carrie committing adultery, but she was Big's accomplice...

What difference does that make? She knew she wasn't married to him, so that should have been enough to know that having sex with him was wrong.

That's a lame excuse, not knowing he was married. Every affair partner knows they are not married to the other person.

No excuses, period!

Even if this is "just a movie" there are folks who walk away thinking this sort of behavior is OK.

I respect this a TON SC...I very much wish that I had...Mr. W and I both feel like that now...

With all of my heart I hope that our dd8 chooses to wait until marriage...I think it is a very big deal...More than I have words to express actually...

It kills me that without my committing adultery that I might never have repented of that particular sin...that haunts me...Would I have seen without the adultery? I don't know...I'd like to think so, because it bothers me A LOT that adultery was the catalyst for my repentance of many things...that anything good (repentance) was born of adultery...kwim?

Well technically i did not do it though. Me and my H lived together before we got married because my mother did not want me to date him and told me i had to move out so he told me to move in with him, but he has been my "only" one.

I don't know that it necessarily made him "happy", i think he just could not believe that in this day and age there were any virgins left on the planet LOL!!

ok......well for me ever since I got here, I thought an AFFAIRAGE was a affair than turned into a M. Meaning, neither partners ended it. So, it maybe that my definition was wrong.

I also do not see the whole Hollywood glorifying affairs in this show. Carrie was VERY much troubled by what she was doing. Are we all really nieve enough to think that the OP'S in our sitch's were without a conscience???? If that were true, we would have to "shun" a lot of FWS on here. Heck, when I read from the men on here and them going off on the OM, I kind of sit back and think, because my WS is an OM..... Not every affair has the OP being single....(mine is that way....they were BOTH married....). I find it interesting in hindsight to see what Carrie went through as the BOW.

Also, it did not glorify Steve's affair either (though I thought the confrontation scene when he gave the ol' "I wasn't getting any" justification kind ironic....). I thought Cynthia Nixons portrayal of the BS very well played out....(she did amazing....for once I could totally relate to her...).

And in the end it doesn't matter, because these were sub-plots to the bigger picture, which as Mimi stated, was 4 women and their friendship. Which I LOVED. This too was the reason I always loved the show.....and still do.....

Mrs. W

Repentance comes to us from and through Jesus Christ.

It is a gift of God.

"Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?" Romans 2:4

"Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins." Acts 5:31

"When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life." Acts 11:18

"In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;" 2 Tim. 2:25

Desensitize...That's exactly what I meant.

Sorta like the old frog in the water analogy.

Put a frog in water and slowly turn up the heat and he stays.

Drop him directly in the scalding water and he jumps.

What I mean....is that there is an AFFAIR. Neither partners end it, whomever is married, gets divorced and aftwards they marry......I thought there was no end of the affair at all....hey, I did say I may be wrong...maybe I'm just confused... crazy

Chris Noth....yes, very easy on the eyes...though I was not a Big fan, personally, I ALWAYS loved Adian and Carrie together....

Natasha and Big's divorce passes the "but for" test...But for Carrie and Big's affair the divorce would not have happened...Making it an "affair marriage", imo...Looking at it Biblically, Big would not have been released from his convenant since he was the WS...he would not have been "allowed" to remarry...Really anyone that he married he would have been committing adultery with...It just makes it sting MORE to me that he did end up marrying his affair partner...

As for glorifying adultery? Well, Samantha certainly had her fair share of sex with married men...So much so that Carrie was once prompted to say to her..."Maybe we should start tagging your married men and that way you could keep track of them." Quote found HERE... That sure seems to make adultery a "no big deal" issue as far as the show was concerned...

Add to that the fact that Charlotte once made out with the gardner because first husband Trey wasn't having sex with her...Upon learning that, her MIL PROUDLY said, something along the lines of "My, my Charlotte, you really are a McDougal!", and well you just have a show that treated adultery with the same seriousness that one would treat a scraped knee with, if that...Adultery was ACCEPTED...

For me, the show lost it's appeal once my eyes were opened...

Mrs. W

P.S. Thank you for that Marsh...Much appreciated! smile

Yeah. Society as a whole. Mob rules. It's pretty much that way with just about everything. Scary, too.

Remember when divorce was rare? I remember in 6th grade a girl's parents were getting divorced and everyone walked on eggs around her. The attitude was almost like she had been diagnosed with a fatal disease.

I've noticed that there are still a few people out there who react that way when they find out I am going through one right now. Like I'm a piece of eggshell china that's going to fall and break into a million pieces all of a sudden.

That stuff was ALIEN to me..like SCIENCE FICTION..that was about OTHER PEOPLE..I had no plans of ADULTERY ever affecting MY LIFE...My H was A CHURCH DEACON for goodness sake...OH MY...

Maybe I shudda payed CLOSER ATTENTION...

Exactly. I'm from that generation too. And heaven forbid the girl who ended up pregnant before marriage. Now it seems like no big deal.

I agree that a steady diet of infidelity being flashed everytime we turn around (even in commercials now!) does desensitize society.

I guess the $64,000 question now is how do we get that horse back in the barn?
