Or...you can take the remaining earring and have a pendent or ring made with it for a necklace or ring.

I was a poor college kid when I bought my wife her engagement ring and apparently I surprised her once by having a new diamond put in the setting when the original fell out and was lost. I’m embarrassed to say I only vaguely remember doing it. Even the replacement very small.

For our 25th Anniversary I finally bought her a new diamond. Knowing how picky she is I ordered a much larger high grade diamond from Blue Nile, a highly respected online diamond store. I then let my wife pick out the setting from a local jewelry store. The Jewelry stores can’t usually come close to matching the price for diamonds from this on-line store but they don’t have many setting options and I wouldn’t have trusted myself anyway. I was a hero all around..

With the economy the way it is and jewelers hurting, it may be a good time to upgrade. I know most jewelers won't take in a diamond on trade but, Adamas Inc. minnesota jewelers does custom wedding rings. I know they are a lot better quality then online. I also no they compete with blue nile. Have you thought about creating meaningful jewelry instead of bigger jewelry. Many people are getting custom cut and designed gemstone rings. There are so many new technologies out there now, like design cuts etc... I know Adamas has connections for that as well.
cheers
