Hi all,

I dunno if I've posted to this thread before or not, but I have a perfect question for y'all, seeing as how I am fashion-challenged. (I have a secret fear that some day my sister will call "What Not To Wear" on me!)

I'm currently in the process of packing to move to a different state. I have a lot of clothes that are in great shape, rather nice, haven't worn in a long time b/c I couldn't fit into them. Guess what - I can now! Or for some of them, I can almost fit, I'm getting there. BUT I don't know if they are too "out of style" to wear anymore. I don't pay much attention to what's in style. I think the only clothes I've ever stopped wearing b/c of style rather than they just were too worn, were acid-washed jeans and white pants with candy-color striping on them. From way back in high school. (I really almost never throw anything away!) In fact I still have them, just not wearing them.

But back to my question - I know enough to not wear the pants from H.S. any more. But what about some dresses, like, what we used to call church clothes? (Except where I live now, ppl go to church in the same clothes they wear to work, except for the elderly women.) Do dresses ever go out of style, as long as they aren't some really weird fad?

E.g., I have two dresses that I just now realized I can fit into. They are A-line I spose - the skirt kinda flares out - and they have shoulder straps and you would wear a shirt underneath. They are corduroy with a floral pattern. The brand is Herman Geist. Are these too outdated? For either the current fashion, or for my age? Or should they go into the Goodwill/Salvation Army box?

Any and all feedback is welcome!

And by the way, I know that my FOO loves Myrtle Beach. Other great places are the Florida Panhandle, like Panama City (GREAT beaches there, white smooth sand with very few sharp shells or rocks to hurt bare feet - we just got back from there as a matter of fact!) and ... what's the place on the coast of GA? I think it's Savannah, Georgia and St. Simon's Island.

I definitely recommend a beach vacation at least once a year if you can. We did that growing up. Nothing like spending time on the beach just listening to the surf, to relax, restore and refresh your soul. My H's folks never did such things, they always do activities and go to "touristy" places (as in museums etc, not beaches) but I think H is now a convert. Yay!!!

Jayne, I love the beach! There is no place on earth I would rather be in the morning, drinking coffee and reading. My husband likes the beach at night, but not me. I like the rising sun and all the hopes and new possibilities it brings with it. smile

OMG, that cracked me up.

Jayne, I think Tybee Island off the coast of Savannah is nice. We used to camp at Myrtle Beach when I was a kid. It was a blast. You could camp right on the beach there. Don't know if you still can.

And I better not catch you SNEAKING out THERE with one of those dresses on. You can keep one to wear around the house for old times sake..even for HALLOWEEN..but NOT OUT IN PUBLIC for a NORMAL function ...Yes, DONATE. I don't even know if it's OK to donate them for someone else to wear..OH MY... blush

Jayne - from one Jane to another Jayne - DO NOT wear those high school clothes. DO NOT!!!! Please, back away from them.....Call someone for an intervention, if need be. If you are seriously attached to something, you might be allowed to keep it - preferably to turn into quilt pieces.

As for the beach, The Diplomat is gifting me w/ 3 nights at a hotel in the Savannah area for my birthday. He is 1000 miles away....the room is for the children and me. Hilton Head is only about 30 miles from Savannah.

(Parts of 'Forrest Gump' were filmed in Savannah, did y'all know that?

So, knowing nothing more than they have historic stuff and beaches nearby, we are headed there Thursday. It's been 9 years since I've been to the beach.

My mom used to live between Fort Walton and Pensacola, FL. We went there every summer for several years. My daughter has so many memories of BB, that's my mom, and Grand Jack in Florida that she does not want to go there. Grand Jack was a family friend whose wife died shortly after my dad died. BB and Jack took to 'dating' and should have gotten married. Instead, they lived next door to each other in Florida - a change from the city here where they had lived for years while married (to their respective spouses).

Y'all are a HOOT!

Actually I think those dresses are from college days maybe; maybe a little after that even.

I just had a great idea for a web site service - where those of us who don't know any better, could post pictures of outfits and those more blessed with the talent could give us a thumbs up or down.

No! No! No!

Trip is NOT w/ Diplomat. That would be nice......trip is w/ my children.

He could afford to help make this happen. He thinks son, daughter, and I needed a trip. He will be staying too far away. He made my reservations and charged them to himself for my birthday present.

So, I have a goddess mom problem. I am all excited about this trip. My daughter is all excited about this trip. smile

My son is a stick in the mud and doesn't want to do anything that isn't his idea. He is so much like his father that I could throttle him a lot of the time. mad

Son doesn't want to go on the trip. Just wants to play on the computer. I could leave him w/ his dad and tell his dad I think an appropriate consequence is no computer. Bear in mind, son does not like new experiences...new things.....so stinking much like his father on this stuff that I find it sickening. sick

Daughter is 17. Do I leave the 15 year old w/ his dad and stepmother or do I tell him he is going and to get over it. I know he will have an ok time once he gets on the road. crazy

I sort of think girl time would be wonderful. grin I sort of think we need the family time. grin

I don't know....I just don't know. confused...confused

I do know it would cost less to leave him at home. You know how those boys can eat. But, I just love him to pieces even if I can't see straight after dealing with him, sometimes. mad crazy confused cry  confused

I have a boy like this...

He's a MAN and he's still like this...

I'll just share my experience with HIM..can't say it'll be the same for you...

WE MADE HIM GO on what most would consider to be a DREAM VACATION..when he was a teenager...

He was an [censored]...I still regret to this day that we took him...

Life is much too short not to ENJOY every minute...

Don't let him spoil your vacation...

I recommend give him the OPTION of going and THEN, if he continues to say NO, let him suffer the consequences of staying home..

I wouldn't recommend punishing him while he stays..but DEFINITELY leave his BUTT..and know that YOU TRIED...

Saw that a little while ago, Mimi. My sister had it open and I just couldn't help myself.

I couldn't imagine having my booty hanging out like that. YIKES!

Oh, and I join the ranks that are telling Jayne to ditch the dresses and old clothes. I like the idea of quilting with them. A nice way to hold on to the memories, of WHATEVER you did in those clothes whistle
