Does anybody think that Sarah Palin should probably be attending to the needs of her family at present, rather than the needs of her country. She has a baby with downs syndrome and a 17 year old pregnant daughter.
I thought she looked a little like Lois Lane in the Superman movie. Maybe they got married and moved to Alaska (wasn't all that cryptonite kept in ice?).
Is it a bird, is it a plane? ...

Well, she is a woman, it's not like she's a CAPABLE MAN who can handle both career and family. We all know women are not bright enough to handle that. She should stay home, barefoot and pregnant like a good gurl..

I'm amazed that a 44 year old woman with 4 children decided to have a 5th child. But that is just me. That said, I think it is sexist to say she should be home taking care of her kids. We wouldn't say that if she was a man, and I have to assume she has solid plans to manage that.
As for her 17 year old pregnant, unmarried daughter, I think it is a private family matter.

I know there was alot of concern about whether Mitt Romney, father of SIX, could handle the job AND his parenting obligations at the same time, right?

. Do you really think women are as bright as men, believer? Maybe they aren't BRIGHT enough to handle career and family? I know some pretty stupid women.

It's probably the scale of the job that bothers me. Perhaps she has the most amazing husband and, if so, she is blessed. Just seems a lady with an enormous amount of responsibility on her shoulders right now.
I realise she wouldn't take the job if she didn't think she could handle it.
Just wondered how people on MB felt about her.

I think she can probably handle the career and family as well as anyone else. Men have been doing it for years. She seems to have managed just fine as governer and mayor. Granted, she has her hands full, but I would expect she has a hands on husband and perhaps a nanny. There are some darn competent women out there who can handle a career as well as men.

I think there is no higher calling than being a SAHM or SAHD if a person is cut out for it.
All of the issues around this candidate that are coming up are just driving me crazy. Things that the media would never consider asking a man are being brought up.
I've worked all of my life with 2 kids. And it wasn't easy. During Desert Storm I worked 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, and it was mandatory. I made arrangements for my boys. Then I had 6 step-kids added to the mix, and still worked and did everything.
I think that she has been chosen for VP and accepted and she will do right by her family and the nation.

I find it amazing that women are so sexist towards other women.

TT I agree, She must be a Superwoman. After all, her water broke in Dallas, and she went to an event and even made a speech!! Then she flew to Seattle, and then finally a 14 HOUR flight to Alaska and then a 40 minute car ride. Just to have her baby in Wasilla. WOW!!! Go figure!! I didn't know you could fly when in labor But she "held it together" I am sure there is really no story there!!?? I am sure she didn't put herslf, her unborn baby, or any of the passangers on that plane at risk!! She is just a Super woman. Why, she even went back to work the following Monday!!! Now I would like to see a MAN try that one!!

I'm looking at this election and I am in awe.. IN AWE of the media bias.
Rumors and Dirt are appalling.
I even read this,
"If she can't control her kid, how is she going to run the country"
.... thats like saying "If she can't control her husband, how is she going to run the country"
... if he can't control his pastor, how can he run the country?
The Media seems to think you should be controlling those around you.
We all know here you can only control yourself.

Well according to CNN, she just received a standing ovation in accepting the party's vice presidential nomination. Read here: CNN - Sarah Palin Jo

Brilliant choice of a very strong, smart, loyal and tough woman, mother, wife and governor.
Did I mention she is also one hot lady.

As a parent of a special needs child, I have trepidation that a PARENT (read man or woman) should be in a job that could take them away from their family a lot.
BK, why do you think an opinion by a woman that children need their mothers when they are young is sexist? I think it is truthful and pragmatic. In fact, I think children need both of their parents.

I think it's an example of sexist stereotyping.
Palin is taking hits just because she is a woman. I think that's wrong.

What is the job description of the task in hand?
Apart from being the poster girl for Mrs American supermother.
What are her other qualifications?

What are her other qualifications? You mean besides her executive experience as a mayor and governor? I know, I know... It pales in comparison to that of a first time junior senator, community organizer, and slum lord... I have belonged to a political discussion board for several years and a friend of mine brought up the idea of Palin at least 6 mos ago as a potential running mate for someone else. It seemed pretty pie in the sky to us, but lo and behold, McCain made a smart choice I think.

I am also the mother of a special needs child, and I think it is unfair to discount the dad's ability to contribute as primary caregiver in this situation. I also trust that this was discussed with her husband and older children before she made the decision to accept the responsibility.
Both parents ARE important, but only one parent gets questioned about family commitment when career choice is part of the topic.
