I have four friends who are die-hard Republicans and each one of them has sent me at least 4 or 5 emails in the past couple months, all of which are such cartoons The only things I have ever gotten from one of my Democrat friends was an announcement of an upcoming speech by one of our Representatives, and an invitation to a luncheon given in his honor. yeah, okay. When are we going to get the "liar, liar pants on fire emoticon???"  If your story about this is true, I wonder why YOU have racist friends. Obama would mean ruin to our country...but not because of his color.

I know Mel will make minced meat out of the rest of your post, so I'll just address this small point.... You can be "outraged" all you want...you can talk about your solid Christian upbringing, how "you'd never!", but it's a load of crap. The Republican Party, Christians (especially) included, is the party of racism. Christians believe in creationism, and therefore believe that there is only ONE race...the human race. They believe that we all came from the same parents. That we are the same blood. It was proponents of the theory of evolution that put forth the hideous idea that one so called race was more evolved than another one was.

Krazy, let this formerly BIG city independent fill you in on the facts. Philadelphia is perhaps the MOST RACIST city in America. It is predominantly Democratic. The worst areas of Philly are democratic. The Philly suburbs, where blacks and whites live in harmony are predominantly republican.

Creationism is religion, and is supported by a minority of Christians. Evolution says nothing about race, except to note that it is not a valid subdivision of species. -ol' 2long

When I think about what I witnessed growing up I agree. My family is a VERY mixed political bag (mostly from the Northeast) and I see a lot of truth to your observation.
I think a big problem is that democrats are considered to be liberals but most democrats don't agree or feel strongly about A LOT of what LIBERALS stand for.....they are a very diverse group and their values are all over the place.
The republican party has a much more solid common ground and they stick together and stand behind their party much better than democrats do.

The DIXIECRATS including JESSE HELMS joined the REPUBLICAN PARTY, breaking off from the DEMOCRATIC PARTY when it became more "LIBERAL" and spoke out AGAINST SEGRATION in the 60s.
JESSE HELMS is a perfect example of why AAs do not TYPICALLY support the REPUBLICAN PARTY.
But there are AA REPUBLICANS.

What's BAD about LIBERAL thinking? It's NOT about FORNICATING, etc. That's what's SCARY...someone being AGAINST LIBERAL thinking..which I associate with FREEDOM and BEING OPEN TO CHANGE.
If there was NOT liberal thinking, the SOUTH would continue to be SEGREGATED because, of course, we need for everything to STAY THE SAME.

Mimi, it doesn't change the fact that democrats have institutional RACISM in their past, and Republicans DO NOT. The democrats are the most racist political party in US history. The Republicans have always been against racism. ALWAYS.
