when it comes to their voting record, I would say that is true. It is every bit as true as those that would vote for the likes of David Duke...it is every bit as true as the fools that continued to elect segregation candidates. Ignorance and a lack of integrity is not reserved for black people...it just so happens that in the current discussion, they do in fact own it.

I think it speaks to the COMPLEXITY of racial issues in this country. Could it be that a group of people is in such LONGING for REPRESENTATION that they would COMPROMISE their values?

sure it could be. It could also be for many, a complete absence of morals, integrity and values. See, there are other blacks that would make great candidates....so, the representation issue falls on somewhat deaf ears.

Given the black population in this country, it appears as though they are proportionally represented.

Understood. You WILL NOT vote for a "republican" under any circumstances, regardless of how "bad" a "democrat" candidate might actually be.

With respect to Clarence Thomas, a fine jurist, and NOT a republican. He is a conservative. He is a strict constitutionalist. He is not for "legislating from the bench."

I have never been in close association with those that did not share my political views and I am learning alot about the thinking of those of you who do not.

Laughing WITH you, mimi. I often feel the same way about various members posting about "religion" and "Christianity."

There are all "types" of people on MB, and very rarely do they all agree about anything. If you really want to see "intolerant," check out the "venom" that is often posted about faith in Christ and God as the LORD of everyone and everything.

So I understand the frustration you seem to be feeling and writing about.

I am a moderately conservative liberal - or - a moderately liberal conservative.....I forget which one....just real middle of the road. The pentultimate undecided voter. crazy

Growing up with a conservative religious background but the daughter of a blue-collar union-member father without a college education and a white-collar professional social worker (at a public hospital) mother has given me a totally weird view on life. crazy

I just have my own way of seeing everything. I've been personally impacted by elected officials who made decisions to reward their campaign workers. sigh I've worked in federally funded programs that were saving money and yet had their budgets cut so significantly that my job was eliminated. sigh I've worked in unemployment insurance dealing with people who lost their jobs when unemployment rates climbed after free trade agreements were enacted and jobs moved out of the country. sigh Free trade agreements often help company's bottom line but hurt the people who worked for the company. sigh

Y'all, there is no ideal candidate. And, IMHO, there is no one running for president that I want to vote for. cry

I guess this would make you a "conservatist", then, wouldn't it? In much the same way that I'm a "liberalist", too. And many of the unbridled, undisciplined displays of liberal mindset which have been disgorged on these threads are as personally unappealing to me as what you feel you've discovered about conservatives, is to you. Being unattracted, or even repelled, by the opinions, characteristics, characterizations, etc., etc., etc., of the opposing side is NOT a one way street. It is unreasonable to expect it to be!

Why not?

Which conservative principles don't you like?

Did you know that most Americans (60%) describe themselves as very conservative, or somewhat conservative?

If McCain was very conservative, not just a tiny bit, we'd be looking at a landslide...even w/ ACORN doing their best to steal the election.

Nah... every true conservative will be voting for McCain/Palin, so he'll win by a landslide if your theory holds together.

Nice try.

That may be what YOU want my theory to be.

One more time... my theory is that if McCain were a true conservative (very conservative) he would win in a landslide.

Conservatism is very appealing to most people.

Ya gotta read a bit more slowly. I did not twist her words, I disagreed with her. Her theory is that 60% of the US is very conservative or somewhat conservative. I said that by theory, McCain/Palin would win by a landslide, since all sources I read said that they have the conservative basis very well energized.

No twisting of words. Just disagreement with her statment.

You may not agree, but that is nothing new.

LOL

Let's try this one more time...

That was not my theory, AGG, that was the result of The Battleground Poll.
