His name is Dr. Dan Nelson. He's a chiropractor and an exercise physiologist who decided at 44 that he wanted to become a firefighter. His father died of leukemia. Nelson did the climb last year and it took him 21-minutes 52-seconds. The firefighter who won was 40-years-old and did it in 11-minutes and 30-seconds. Nelson is training by doing stairs at the University of Washington's football stadium with an air mask and 60-pounds of gear. Eykarumba!

Anyway... I thought you might want to size up your competition.

I just had to look up the conversion for pounds to kilograms to see how much he is carrying. It is close to the same as our NZ gear weight. And that is what we wear for every fire we go to.
It is a bit of a struggle if you are unfit.

I expect to complete the climb in about 21 minutes. I am not super fit but for me it is not about coming first, it is about finishing and raising a few dollars for the cause.

See you soon.

FYI..

The climb is going to take a little longer than we though. We were told initially that the kiwi's would be sent up early but it appears the sqaud Flick is in will be going up around midday. They will start sending them up around 9.30am, with the last squad leaving around 3pm.

Hope there's a good pub nearby laugh

Something to make note of... This Saturday night most time zones in the U.S. "spring forward" so you're going to lose an hour. I know... It sucks. So remember when you go to bed Saturday night that you set your clock ahead an hour so you don't miss the climb!

Well, I can't go.

I understand the weather was good this week, but suddenly (as per usual) it is going to be cold when Flick and Lil arrive.

Who all is gonna make it?

faint SNOW STORM? Did you say SNOW STORM? faint

I'll be there. In fact, JT and I are going to hook up together and drive into Seattle, right woman of strength?

Hi Queenie! (JT searching for her Wonder Woman outfit...now where did I leave those boots?)

I'm planning on carpooling with you. Let's chat and confirm the details tomorrow pm.

Just kidding about the "snowstorm". Lil had said Flick was kind of hoping to see city streets covered with snow. I'm not sure he'd like to see our Seattle hills dusted with snow.

BTW-Steve Poole did say there might be some snow in the rain by Sunday. You just never know... grin

I still have an inkling I may just up and go... maybe about a 10% chance... depends on whether I have any meetings at the beginning of the week. H loves Seattle, anyway, and we haven't taken a family road trip since... August? LOL Of course he doesn't really have any days off work...
