Boil new potatoes with skins on until cooked. Serve with butter and fresh chopped chives.

dice one large onion, 3 tomatoes. In a bowl add 500gm-1kg minced beef (I think ya'll call it hambuger) one egg S&P and diced vege. Mix together with clean hands.
Take a handful of mix and shape into patty. Fry rissoles or grill until cooked.

Serve all.

I should point out meat and milk is cheap for me so all my recipes contain alot of it

It's not so much the price of meat and milk that's a question for me (though it's definitely a concern) but I think I need a New Zealand to American dictionary. smile What are Rissoles?

I make a lot of soups-- usually at least once a week, and they are always "originals."

I made a really good one tonight.

It was a "leftover special."

I started with a packet of split pea soup mix-- cost about $1.50. I approximately doubled the water requirement. I added some leftover Polish sausage, a BUNCH of leftover veggies, including spinach, some fairly bitter mustard greens, mixed veggies, some leftover veggies with cheese sauce, basically all the veggies we didn't eat this week, plus about 4 cups of leftover mashed potatoes. Then I added about a cup of dried tortellini.

SO I have a very thick, spicy soup. Will serve with spinach salad. DS15 has tasted it and pronounced it yummy.

This sounds like one of my favorite dinners, also. So, some of your foods really aren't that different from ours, you just have different names for things.
This one sounds so yummy.

Concerning your cheese comment, Lildoggie: Yes, Americans smother everything with cheese. Most of the time it's a very poor quality cheese. It's primary function is to make your butt grow larger so you can be identified as an American anywhere in the world.

My wife makes goat cheese with raw milk from a local farmer. Amazingly good.

I think there is a scene in Borat where he's exploring the cheese section in a supermarket. Hilarious!!!

Actually given that Americans ARE portrayed as being large than the average bear, I was surprised at how few lager ones I saw.

I love goats cheese, but its very expensive here. All cheese is. Flick has made cheese in the past, it wasnt bad, kind of squeeky when you ate it. Great on pizza.

I have never watch Borat past him snogging his sister, I got put of at the running of the Jew bit at the begining

Yeah, it's an extraordinarily irreverent movie - crosses so many lines you lose track after awhile. I dunno, guilty pleasure I guess. I only tolerate the anti-Semitism because Sasha Baron Cohen, the actor who plays Borat, is Jewish and my interpretation of that feature is that it is a parody of anti-Semitism in parts of the Muslim world - trying to show how absurd it is. Most of his characters play on this dynamic.

I make homemade macaroni and cheese quite a bit. Our family favorite is to use Pepper Jack (for a tiny bit of punch) or Fire Jack (for a bit more). It's excellent! Pepper jack is my favorite kind of cheese and whatever I can find to use it with, is okay with me! loveheart
