It is so offensive when people refer to soccer as Football, especially doing it in all caps. I beg your pardon? Why is it offensive for British people to refer to this sport by the name we have always used? Why is it less offensive for us to use the American name?

Well, that was possibly the worst England game I have ever seen. It was an embarrassment.
Capello has said that he will consider "something different" after this turgid, 0-0 draw against Algeria.
I'll say he should. He'd do better to send out the England women's side next time.
staytogether, you and I could have done better than that shower out there! Well, I was kinda glad for the 0-0 tie for the sake of the placement for the U.S. in the Cup. Both teams played horridly. The U.S. did so much better in the 2nd half with their semi-4-5-1 set up and worked much better for them than the 4-4-2. If America had played in teh 1st half like they did the 2nd half, the stupid call by the ref wouldn't have been a big deal.

I don't have the intention of offending anyone else. But personally, football played here in the states, NFL style is the best game in the world. I have tried to watch soccer, but I can't keep myself from changing the channel.

Sugarcane, Canadians call it soccer too. But we also know that it is called FOOTBALL in other parts of the world and we know our place. Soccer here, FOOTBALL there.

I can imagine the welcome I'd get joining a thread about NBL football and saying that I find it offensive to see that game being called football!

Football Actually I love American football because of sentimental memories with my grandfather and I barely miss a game inseason. Can we all just hate on Cricket?

I think you have to be an American to love football (American football). A lot of my European friends just hate the stop and start of American football.

How about going on a "surviving an Affair" forum and asking if anyone has sympathy for the adulterers? Then being appalled by the "harshness" of the posters answers.

Seriously, can't you let that go. I never said affairs are good. I do not think they are. I do feel for people who are so unhappy that they have to resort to that. I have sympathy for unhappy people.

I think that was a bit uncalled for. I think he got a dishing out on that thread. He started another thread asking for advice on how to fix his maritial problems. I think he was testing the waters on this forum...just did it poorly. Besides...this is about the world cup and football/soccer.

I hope they can get themselves together for the next game. I think a change of formation and Joe Cole. Why on earth did he not play Joe Cole?
Sugar_Cane - I think just you and I alone could have done better, for sure.
My kids who were so excited about staying up both fell asleep before the hour. Each of them not much more than an hour after the time they are usually asleep.
I do need to do some work on DS4:
In one of the afternoon games I said "come on the let's go out" and I got the reply. "HAng on, let's wait til the football has finished"
He's 4! It wasn't his country. It doesn't bode well for his future wife!!

oh - and that goal should never ever have been disallowed KT! Oh, girl, the entire world is screaming that. I doubt he'll ever ref again. Here's my thing...apparently there's the rumor (since the ref would never admit to why he called it) it was due to a foul in the box. Geez! Considering half the Americans were behing bear hugged and held, there should have been a foul called. So then you say "no goal but you get a PK." It's amazing how a single call can change the end result of a match. Now! I will say if the U.S. had actually played a good first half, well... p.s. I'm ashamed at England. That was horrible football from a team that can play so much better in their sleep.

My DD played soccer when she was 6, and it didn't look ANYTHING like the World Cup. I won't say anything about American Football because I live in the south and if you don't say you live for it you might not go to heaven. Roll Tide (oops!) But I will say that soccer players tend to have better grammar than American football players.....and that's all I'll say
