He seems to be doing what he wants because he can, without ramifications. Once the reality of consequences sets in, it may be different.
What is your financial situation? Do you both work? 25 years would mean spousal support depending on who earned the most. Also splitting IRAs. Possibly selling the house and dividing it up. Once these things start hitting him he may have pause to consider.
See an attorney as soon as possible!
