Where this "case study" will get bogged down forever is the rather simplistic expectation that Anthony Wiener the adulterer is seperable from Anthony Wiener the politician.
What contributes to each contributes to the other.
As a liberal Democrat his stocks in trade would include the ability to lie without guilt; an assumption (usually correct) that the audience will "trust" him (as opposed to taking action to track/verify his efforts); an easily erasable "scratch-pad" memory to obliterate any/all failed attempts by others in his current mission; and a long-standing history of dodging the negative consequences of his misguided initiatives.
Obviously, as a hound-dog adulterer, these characteristics came into play as well!
Complementing this, of course, is the "Grin and Bear It" attitude of the adoring partner (as opposed to Tony's "Grin and BARE It" tweets!). The lady is highly motivated by his main political chance - power, money, prestige - so, in the Hillary Clinton, Silda Spitzer model, she will sell her self-respect and expectations of marital fealty to not "rock his career boat". Her operating guide? "What he's been doing with a few dollies is no more than I've been assisting him to do to the general electorate, so....eh!"

You see, when I post to someone, I don't stop and think; is this person a Democrat, or Republican? What church do they attend? Are they pro-life, or pro-choice?
I say; here is a marriage, here are the things that they state are going on, here is the standard advice based on MB radio, MB books, and the available articles.

I just love how his name is so fitting. The most prophetic name since John Wayne "BOBBETT". What if we all had names like that?

IMHO
The singly most interesting difference in this particular marriage train wreck is the role played by social media - specifically Twitter.
Twitter was his admiration drug vehicle. Twitter exposed him to the scrutiny of the country. If Weiner had not been using Twitter, he might not be his own worst enemy.
What does that mean in MB-speak? Extraordinary precaution = NO TWITTER account.
Most non-famous people do not get caught because of a Tweet.

The issue of being famous is what makes Weiner a case-study.
Being famous is a risk factor.

Insert name here (Tiger Woods for example) has a talent/skill/position that brought him/her fame.
Fame increases the risk for public exposure.
Then, once the famous person's adultery is publicly exposed, we non-famous get the chance to feel superior to that famous person. We stop looking at the event thru a marriage builders lens. This is very interesting to me.
I do this too ... EXCEPT when I happen to know that person in real life. Which has happened a few times (not Tiger). Then, it is much easier (for me) to view the publicly exposed adultery through the marriage builders lens.
Again, IMHO.

The first thing Weiner said when I sat down was that their 13-month-old son, Jordan, had just moments ago taken his first step. They were both giddy, kvelling with baby-pride, especially Weiner, who, with all his free time, has become his sons primary caretaker. If I knew Weiner in real life (I do not) I would be rejoicing this moment and not eyeing their recovery through a political lens. I had to look up kvell. Nice word. If I ever have K and V while playing Words With Friends.

Nice word. If I ever have K and V while playing Words With Friends. No doubt you already know "kvetch"!! But meanwhile, would the following composition have made you so...effusive....in your rejoicing? ...especially Weiner, who, having been driven in disgrace from his Congressional seat (and basically unemployable until it's considered safe to appoint him to some do-nothing "Executive Director" sinecure), leaving his wife to absorb the role of sole, primary breadwinner, has become his sons primary caretaker.Dumbledore was right!

If I were not viewing the Weiner marriage thru a distant political lens my eyes would have a different view.
The arrogance of the famous is why public exposure of the famous is so celebrated by some.
Being "famous" can be local. Let's say that Pepperband is famous in MB-land. I will use myself as an example not to embarrass anyone else. If Pepperband fell from grace and had an EA with someone ... and it was exposed to the WORLD .... do you think the WORLD would give a rat's patootee? Naw. But on MB forums .... Pepperband's EA might cause some people who found her to be arrogant proof positive of her arrogance. People who relied on and trusted Pepperband would be hurt and disappointed and probably angry, but the celebratory individuals would be the ones who never likes Pepperband in the first place.

You are aware, or read enough of the article to glean... that Wiener's wife is an aid to Hillary Clinton, and has been working with the Clintons since Slick Willy was in the big chair? She had a rather interesting shoulder to lean on when this broke...

He's in the news for more Internet sex stuff. Yup, it has it's own thread. Thanks for digging this one up, though. I referenced it, but was far too lazy to dig it up.
