....when the dust settles....
and my tear banks run dry...
and the sun sets...
After the wind ceases,
and the distractions subside;
when 'truth' and reason have been thought upon and agreed with...
when the night comes and the stillness prevails,
When the noise is quieted
and the words come no more;
I simply cannot get away from the underlying fact,
I love her.
I love her like I've loved no other.
And the gaping hole within my heart refuses to be comforted...or filled.
When it's all said and done...
I just love her.
It trancends 'right and wrong'
It defies logic
It alters your life
it ignites your soul
and becomes your breath for living.
Like the footprints left on the moon years ago,
there are handprints engraved upon my heart
that will never fade.
~sigh~
Winter is nigh...and north winds will come and go.
Seasons will change.
Minutes will turn to hours and linger on into days
The weeks will grow into months as the years take
their toll yet one thing will never change...
I will always love her.
Always

Wow!
I couldn't have said it any better myself.
Thanks for putting into words...what has been embedded in my heart for some time.

This is a great poem lighthouse. I especially like the line "when 'truth' and reason have been thought upon and agreed with..."

We talk of marriage and relationships and feelings and hurt all over the boards...but the poetry qualifies it, defines the levels. Today, I am trying to comprehend love and your poem expresses it.
Lighthouse, know what happens if you do not "dust" off your heart...the dust forms little balls and runs around your heart. If you sweep them away they form..."Dustkitties". Hence my monikker.
Thank you

THE END
Those are the toughest words to read at the end of one of those great novels that you found impossible to put down. Doesn't even matter if it was fiction or non-fiction.
You just don't want the story to end.
And it is hard...to even think of picking up another story to read. You can't imagine ever finding one that would come close to matching the one you just devoured.
THE END
Those are just tough words...to get around. You keep hoping...there might be 'just one more chapter'. But the book is closed.
Will I ever find joy in reading again?
I stand...and hold the book close to my heart...with a hug...then...glance at the cover once more...and return it to it's shelf.
What a story.
Now.....it's back to the real world...

Lighthouse,
As always your ability to use the word-picture is amazing. I remember when you wrote that first poem, it is beautiful, but the visual of the book that one doesn't want to end is just as beautiful and true. Writings like this always bring into my mind a kind of 'movie'...you can almost hear the music that goes along with the scene.
I really think most of us have been in that very spot. Just having finished a great book, wishing it could go on and on. I often find myself dreaming about where the chapters beyond the end would go. Maybe someday the author will write a sequel (sp?). It makes me smile to think of that...
Thanks for sharing it : )

thanks...
'sequels'...can be good too.
That reminded me also...that some folks just enjoy reading the same story over and over and over....lol...I lost count of how many times a friend of mine re-read Pride and Prejudice.
