Dear Rob, I wish that there was something I could say to help you feel better. All I can say is that I understand. I have felt a lot of the same. I hope that your wife realizes soon what a jewel you are. Maybe she should live with and try to love an alcoholic. Life with one of them is horrible beyond imagination.
I, too, have felt for many years that God has placed me in my husband's life for a reason. I feel that He wants me to show my husband the love of Christ through my conduct. It's my job as a Christian to show him God's unending love, kindness and peace.
Galatians 6:9 helps me to not give up, "And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart". We are in a battle with the enemy, but we will have the victory. Many, many days I think I'm going to throw in the towel, then I open my bible and read this verse, along with Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen". Even though it doesn't seem like it, God is working on their hearts, Rob. Every once in awhile I see a tiny glimpse of answered prayer, which reinforces in my mind that God truly is working on my husband, convicting him of his sins, calling his name.
Colossians 3:12 says we are called "as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering;". Your kindness and longsuffering will be greatly rewarded by our Heavenly Father. I will be praying for you Rob, and your wife. My prayers will ask the Lord to restore your wife's love for you, better and deeper than ever before. God bless you, Rob, my heart goes out to you.
MTAW
